Injury Report: Stolarz Stretchered Out Of SBA During Game 1

London Knights and Leaf fan here. In round 2 of the OHL playoffs between London and Erie the Erie goalie took 2 hard shots to the mask. He pulled himself from the game and was out for the remainder of the 4game series. The shot to Stolarz mask and then the Bennett elbow to the head could result in a serious head injury. Beyond this series let’s hope Anthony Stolarz will be OK long term.

The only thing is I think the leafs are on the phone right now saying this is twice. They will bring up the Marchand sucker punch and the Knies slam. I think he’s getting 1 game, the fact that he didn’t come out to speak to the media is telling. If it was unintentional, you come out and say I didn’t mean to do it and own it.

He’s probably getting 1 or 2. Too much noise around this one and leafs will/are already calling Parros about this one.

That's actually a very good point. I think he used up his mulligan 2 years ago on the Knies slam. This would look really bad if a player concussed two players on the same team and was never penalized for it.

At least Woll will be prepared this game, so will the team.

Bennett needs a bullseye on his back, it's that simple. You have a series to win but anytime he touches the puck, the hits must be finished with authority.

Ditto for that little spoiled wanker Tkachuk going after Marner when the game ended. Reminds me of a bully kid who went after a socially awkward kid when I was younger. Someone and I won't say who, stepped in and handled the dirty bully.

That said, Marner has to stand up more and show that he isn;t backing down from that punk.
Nothing the Leafs can do. We’ve seen this before over and over again every season. Bennett most likely will get at worst a fine, if that. Leafs will be punished much more severely if they retaliate. It’s why I stopped watching hockey. Since Parros has taken over the leafs have been absolutely destroyed by teams with Parros doing nothing even when it’s clear intention to injure.

All these years Leafs fans bitch and moan about how we keep losing to these teams and this is why. Hell Marchand has come out and said he at least looks to injure players. It’s very clear Florida plays this way too. But they’re an American team and the further they go the better it is for the NHL. Leafs will just have to play with a handicap that the NHL gives them and hope they can pull it out this time.

Yep. Part of me thinks he'll get a game to settle down what could be some heated retribution this will set. He's a repeat offender. But a slimey fine from Parros would stick the middle finger to the Leafs yet again.

It just sucks because the Leafs have gotten their players suspended for similar or a lot less egregious plays. The biggest stinker is that there wasn't even a f***ing penalty with the ref starring at it. He wasn't pushed, he wasn't even touched. He just ran into the goaltender, who went down and the ref went like "oh that's an oopsie"
The thing that annoys me is that if these plays which are deliberate intents to injure result in bans for only 1-2 games in the playoffs. That's barely a deterrent - and this is a matter of player safety.

If there are deliberate attempts to injure from repeat offenders (especially if multiple occasions), then I'd just enact bans of 10+ games or for the duration of the playoffs. There are multiple camera angles and enough replays to make reasonable judgements than 10 or 25 years ago.

It's a realy shame because the NHL is miles ahead of the goon hockey era from the early 2000s when players were getting concussed or badly injured all the time. The sad thing is, if you there are no repercussions and no way for players to self-enforce (the rate of CTEs and concussions was likely lower in the 80s and 90s in the enforcer era), these incidents will continue to occur otherwise.

$5000 fine for head contract only... the NHL has a serious problem about admitting there is a problem with head injuries & CTE later on in life... Highly doubt they gonna start suspending players now and showing concern for it.

Sad but it's not in the league best interest here to show concern for head injuries that were caused by a intentional play.

I had to stop following that thread. The mods were critical of anyone wishing injury on a player in retaliation (which is totally fair), but did nothing about the posters instigating crap by mocking a player who was vomiting at the bench from a head injury. The poster you're quoting is a known troll but was permitted to keep stoking the flame.
It's disgusting that even after a guy is puking and stretchered out they claim he was barely touched and that he was being soft.

Given the Leafs are up 1-0, Bennett gone for a game can really help them get a jump on the series

Florida gets a player back Wednesday who is returning from a suspension.
For the 2nd time this season.

How the league doesn't absolutely hammer down on a team with this many serious infractions in such a short period of time (including the disgusting antics in Round 1 against Tampa Bay), is beyond me, and reinforces the belief they absolutely condone this kind of behaviour.

I don't know what's worse, the hit by Bennett or how pathetic and scared the panel is to say anything negative about it. I don't understand the hesitancy to call it what it was: an elbow to the head with intent to injure.
TheScore has an article up - title?

“Maple Leafs’ Stolarz exits after collision with Panthers’ Bennett”

It’s the Leafs and Parros. That’s all we need to know to know nothing significant will happen to Bennett. We have enough evidence over the years with how Parros has handled Leaf players being targeted.

One time, I was driving my daughter to school. Winter time. It was icy.

She got out of the car, and slipped and fell. She seemed okay though and went to school. Later that day she threw up in school. I picked her up. She was concussed. They was not very well for a couple of days, then she got better.

I remember watching a leaf game once and some one got hit on the head and was lying on the ice. The commentator said something like, they watch and count how many seconds before he starts moving to assess the severity of the head injury.

Stolarz got up right away
I hope, Stolarz who like my daughter, got up right away and played a bit more before throwing up,

They do condone it, as long as you're one of Bettman's pet franchises.
