Did you mean to say another new GM and another new coach?

Seems we've had a lot of each already, but the players remain the same.

Coach doesn't even know the players yet.
GM has players and prospects he had nothing to do with.
They have two keepers who look very good in the minors.
They have a couple prospects who could take a spin around a NHL arena.
They have a player who asked to be moved.

What during the Shanahan era has suggested they would do anything bold like that?
Quite the opposite. I don't think it will be anything bold at all. I think they will move out some spare parts and draft picks and bring in other spare parts. This team is most certainly not going to move a significant player.

He makes a lot of mistakes when it's 3 on 3
Remember not long ago Kampf was starting OT because 16 and 34 would lose the game on the first shift because they stayed out way too long or turned pucks over? Right that was last year.

I think this may be a bit over the top after 9 games. Let the season play out. I think we will like where this team ends up.
He can’t do shut to the four players who are the problem, if they don’t want to buy in there’s nothing he can do……..

It is very likely this is not the same team by the playoffs.
Can’t trade any if the REAL problems on this team………

Myers was beyond awful last night with the puck.
Coach says the exact opposite, but regardless your boy Lilly isn’t getting a look let alone ahead of Myers who played a good gzme for not playing in 9 plus games, McMann was responsible for that goal…….

So the perfect time to waive to the Marlies?
Berube seemed fine with his performance, and I agree, can you imagine Lilly cowering whenever the Bruins entered the defensive zone like in the playoffs last year?

Well, oood for CB... I'll give Myers a a bit of break cause that was his first game in few weeks, but I think that performance was quite a bit worst than anything Liljegren or Timmins have conjured thus far.

New GM and coach who aren't in love with the players in the system.

And they both report to Shanny who we already know has killed deals before

Exactly. If the core was not broken up by now, they won't be broken up until one of them walks

Oilers were terrible first 20 games went to finals
Panthers barely made playoffs year they went to finals for the first time

There are some major differences though.

The Oilers had been to a Conference Final two years prior so they already had a team that could win when it counts. They got off to a horrid start last season in part due to the coach trying to change the way they play and clearly it did not work.

The Panthers were playing badly until Maurice unloaded on them relatively late in the season. Like the Bolts a few years prior the stars changed their approach, the team got nasty overall and they were one of the hottest teams down the stretch before facing the Bruins in the opening round.

So I get the comparison, but for this bad start to be overlooked the Leafs either have to have a history of playoff success or a roster that recognizes they have to change their approach to win. They have neither.

The new boss is likely doing what Treliving did for Keefe.
One chance to right the ship.

Shanahan has a new boss for this season, not someone who came in with 70% of the season done.

This cannot be business as usual for Shanahan.

The long term problem I'm seeing with Auston Matthews is he has no defined personality as the team alpha dog and that is enhanced in his role as captain this season.

If only he were wired to be the guy who crosschecked Rasmus Dahlin, I think you'd at least have trust in a fiery leader. But note all the suboptimal on ice everytime there's trouble. Getting roughed up and targeted by guys like Konecny, Stamkos, Chiarot, no point of pride in sticking up for yourself, let alone teammates. Historically that tells me he's not really in the fight, and can be pushed out by anyone who wants to elevate emotional hostility as a weapon. The multi season project to bring more snarl, snot, bite, size, veteran leadership all seems to be compensating for something. Furthermore, if your leader doesn't have the fight, it seems to dial down the emotional response of everyone else.
BOOOOM!

End thread/.

My boy Lil? Lol. Are you confused?

Myers was awful with the puck. His analytics were worst on the team too.

He can split them up and just put each one on their own line, give less playing time to the ones that are least compliant. Fans will understand what is happening

Matthews doesn't need to emulate Domi per se, but needs a rambunctious linemate to activate a more power heavy game and Domi and Bertuzzi helped Matthews activate that part of his game last year.

You'll notice very early on in their careers Babcock had Hyman with Matthews for a few years and back then Matthews was a lot more dogged and blue collar. It feels like Matthews isn't really an elite drive train player who will bring a stable style of play but adapt to his surroundings, tempo, mentality. For me this doesn't really bode well for him as a functional alpha leader on the ice who sets the standard for team identity, but the worst thing that can happen is insist on Matthews and Marner, because Matthews takes on Marner's style as a perimeter guy and trigger man and that's the style that gets shut down in the playoffs.

Domi doesn't have a heavy game... he is softer than Marner until after the whistle.

No they didn't. Losing does not mean bad game. They dominated the Habs remember they had 50 shots, was just one of those games. Same with the Rangers they played awesome goaltending was the difference

They had games where they were outplayed whether you like it or not.

When he wants to be...

Domi is far from perfect and consistently reliable himself but I think you have an easier time winding him up to play the "snot" game and have him drag Matthews into the fight than for Matthews to be a consistent self starter. There's too much let up in AM34.

Domi plays super soft except for fighting... this is a fact, I don't know why people can't accept it.
