Iginla we also forgot. I feel like Iginla JR will be like dad but we will see.
Quite a few of these kids were highly hyped when drafted. So, if we are dismissing people like Kapanen, Griffin Reinhart, Alexander Nylander, Logan Brown, etc. we sort of have to wait for Tij Iginla to prove it in the NHL. Iginla's dad is clearly the best player of the ones we have mentioned so far.

For example, I haven't seen many mentions of Cole Sillinger yet. Who is at least an established NHLer and was a 12th overall pick in 2021.

edit: Oliver Bonk is also a pretty established prospect too, but we need to see him in the NHL to include him in this list.

Sanderson, Greig, Nylander, Kapanen, Jake Leshychyn. Dad’s were all Whalers.

Poulin, Primeau, Nikolishin, Cassels…not all made it. Colin Wilson. Logan Brown?

Avs currently have five guys who’s Dad’s played.

Mostly outside the NHL, but Ryan MacInnis has carved out a nice professional career for himself. His dad Al needs no introduction.

Bob Suter didn't have the same level of professional hockey success as his son Ryan but will always be a legend for winning that gold medal in 1980. Bob's brother and Ryan's uncle Gary had a great NHL career as well!

If you're drunk driving then you should go to jail. It doesn't matter if no one got hurt. It's not a minor mistake. Recent "minor" mistake cost Gaudreau brothers their lives.
In Finland they adjust the fine according to a person’s income level (something that we should consider in the states) meaning Kapanen had to pay a fine of about $117,000.

The fine was paid in lieu of accepting a 45 day jail sentence. So I think he probably got the message either way.

That's too bad. I'd think he's better than plenty of middle-6 fillers on teams, but i'd assume there's something going on off the ice at this point. His effectiveness in what he was good at has just fallen off pretty badly too.

He used to be one of those weird "better in a bad role" players. Who could just give you your ~15G in poor minutes with scrub linemates at even strength. He's got speed to burn and there are tools to work with there...but if he's not focused on the game, i guess it really doesn't matter. Too bad.

I could see a team claiming him at that price though. But i doubt it.

Those better in a bad role players are usually wildly inconsistent. Niklas Hagman was one too. Most effective when playing with scrubs. He was a decent energy guy when not scoring, though.

To be fair, we haven't had many father to son recent successes.

Stephan Matteau
Martin Brodeur (2 sons drafted in the NHL)
Claude Lemiuex

Maybe I'm forgetting others but Kasperi was atleast a half successful than the peers mentioned above.
Current Sons of NHLers (regular NHLers or top prospects) and their fathers

Len Barrie --> Tyson
Shawn Byram --> Bowen
Jeff Chychrun --> Jakob
Sylvain Couturier --> Sean

Sean Monahan and Casey Cizikas are brothers-in-law (their wives are sisters)
Mark Stone and Cody Ceci are brothers-in-law (their wives are sisters)
Adam Henrique is Steve Thomas's son-in-law

And just f***ing weird...

Slava Kozlov is both the uncle and brother-in-law to Vladislav Namestnikov (Slava married Vladislav
s aunt, then Vladislav married Slava's sister... so it's not as weird/creepy as it initially sounds)

Also fun fact, the 2 Mike Peluso's were first cousins.
