All non-mega star players' offensive production is streaky. You could say this about almost any player.

I get wanting to see other players, but waiving him seems like a harsh outcome.

30ish points for $3.6M cash is not egregiously bad.

I don't disagree, but his streaky is he has scored a goal in 4 games this year. He has 7 goals. He has really big games every 8-10 games or so and then doesn't really do a whole lot. He isn't physical by any means, he doesn't really get used on the PK or PP for that matter. It's just a supporting player on a team that is wanting to recorrect the ship but is running into the same issues year after year. I don't think he deserves to be a waived player, but I think the good news for Blues fans is he is starting somewhere. I don't think however he was any less useful than a Matthieu Joseph, or a Texier. I just think he's had a longer runway and things aren't really changing. I don't doubt he'll help a team this year if he gets waived. But we very clearly aren't consistent enough for it to matter at the moment.

Silly, don’t you think St Louis would have “ flipped “ him for 3rd if they could have gotten any asset. They had been trying for weeks to trade him according to to the read …

Full NTC and an additional year left right now.

Next year he has only a 12-team NTC and will be a rental that can be easily retained down to $2.5 cap with less real salary as well.

It’s likely he doesn’t have value next year either but if a bad team can afford his salary and cap, he *could* maaaaybeee worth betting on for a slight rebound and his contract is imminently more manageable in 12 months.

Genuinely possible he finds a bit of success with a fresh start. Hes not the player he once was, but I think he could be a legitimate asset in the right situation.

I wonder if this is a precursor to a trade where the Blues take back a different bad contract. As in, be sure that nobody will take him for free.

Apparently, David Perron's family still calls a suburb of St.Louis home, so I wonder if he would welcome a trade back "home". It hasn't worked out in Ottawa for Perron. Not his fault. Family stuff off the ice related to complications with the birth of one of their children, and then injuries.

It would be your basic change-of-scenery deal. St.Louis would save a bit of cap space.

I could see Chicago or San Jose claiming him. Both have a rep for overpaying veterans to insulate their young guys. The real money on the contract is not that bad next year at 3.75M, but I guess that depends on what version of Saad they get.

Super streaky but consistent production. Goes long long stretches of being invisible. Then gets hot and somehow gets to 20 and 20. We don’t need that right now, we need ice time for other guys to see what they are. Makes sense, I’m surprised there wasn’t a trade to be made though.
Who are some of these other players the Blues want to take a better look at?

I've been a bit surprised with the lack of games for Texier. Has he been bad or is this maybe a player they want to see more?

He's been bad but Army did say he wanted to see him get more opportunity. There are some younger guys in the AHL like Alexandrov, Kaskimaki, Robertsson, etc that could get a look eventually. They specifically said they do not want to rush Dvorsky so if anything he might get a cup of coffee later on. They also are planning for Snuggerud to join the team as soon as his NCAA season is over. With the playoffs likely out of the picture now it makes sense to move forward and look at some others who might impact the future.

Texier, probably Joseph, want to make sure Bolduc gets full playing time.

Saad is fine…he’s just had time away with a new baby, and reduced minutes with fourth-line (quality) line-mates. He’s been in and out of the lineup, and when played has been given no consistency with regards to role or minutes. Could be an astute pickup for a team needing secondary scoring.

Imma guess a cap floor team takes him.

His dollars owed is less than his cap hit.

It gives the cap floor teams flexibility to do other things.

For example, it’s a lot easier for Anahiem to trade Gibson if they have Saad’s aav next year, just like it was easier for them to trade Fowler after they got Trouba’s aav on the books.

Anahiem, Calgary, Columbus; come get your boy. Chicago also has room. Chicago take your boy back.
