He delivered what we hoped for in his AHL debut. And media folks also liked what they saw from him. The analysis from The Hockey News...

It would be so huge for this team if everything came together right for this team. I'm fantasizing more than anything but if he could become a guy who is reliable presence in the defensive zone through a blend of punishing physicality and strong gap control, while having good offensive/puck moving instincts he'd be such a good counterbalance on a pair with a guy like Mintyukov, Zellweger or Luneau.

If he pans out he’s prob doing a year in AHL, then potential Nhl the following year… potentially allowing us to replace trouba/gudas. He should also be able to get a lot of playtime next to Luneau in the AHL… could def see them being partners at the nhl lvl too…. Games kinda compliment each other.
Crazy, we’re not far from having to make some hard decisions on the back end.

So, according to the coach this kid (as well as Moore) is an unbelievable puck mover with excellent offensive upside.
I wonder how much of that is just pumping the new kids' tires vs reality? Especially in the case of Solberg who was definitely not drafted for any offensive skill sets? That would be quite a huge, positive, surprise if he could contribute offensively as well.

The Solberg experience is exactly why Verbeek brought Leo over here and didn't let him marinate in Sweden. Teams that invest high draft picks on prospects want to control their development, not leave it up to someone else.

Solberg and Carlsson are two totally different situations. Carlsson has been playing with Orebro since age 16 and developed him into #2 OA pick in the draft. Orebro said Carlsson would be their 1C for Carlsson's D+1 season and had grandeur of sugar plums dancing in their heads knowing that Lekkerimaki would be Carlsson's RW.
Solberg made the move between his D+0 and D+1 from Norwegian play to SHL play. I think Farjestad did a good job reining in a wild stallion to be a more controlled one while also trying to develop his offense. The SHL is a higher level of competition than the Norway men's league. The fact Farjestad reduced his PIM's from 47 minutes the previous year to 16 this year is great progress, while allowing Solberg to hit everything in sight as he was Farjestad's leading hitter with 58 hits. Although, I would have loved to see more than 21 blocked shots from Solberg, he's still a rookie in the SHL.
I don't get why Farjestad gets a bad rap. They didn't prevent Solberg from hitting everything, but they were able to help him limit his PIM's as well as try to develop some offense in a more competitive league. What they're trying to do is control the unnecessary behavior after the whistles are blown.
The Gulls/Anaheim org had to ship LD Dionicio out of North America b/c they couldn't control his behavior after the whistles were blown.
Maybe we shouldn't be casting stones.
On a tangent, the addition of Solberg and Moore shows how lacking in talent the Gulls were on the blue line. The Gulls needed more talent in order to push for the playoffs, especially with already losing several players to the NHL club in C Harkins, RD Helleson, RW Colangelo, and F Nesterenko.

Exactly. A big reason why they wanted Solberg was explained by Verbeek himself: "I love his physicality, I love how aggressive he is". Färjestad tried to remove that part of his game, Ducks certainly didn't like this and pulled him out of there. It's that simple.
You may question the timing, Färjestad was about to hit the playoffs. But the Gulls are also still in the playoff race, and he's a big reinforcement there.
