Neither am I, but it doesn't bother me what Luc and Blake say. I just accept that they have to sell a product; it's their job.

All I care about is actions. If Blake really did try to trade a 1st for Pacorietty he should be fired, but ultimately he hasn't given up any significant futures yet so I'm somewhat okay with him and Luc thus far.

I am happy they didn't reach a deal. It was a bad trade for the Kings and only underlines Robitaille and Blake's inability to face reality.

look at it from this perspective.

1. the training camp was bad. guys came into the season unprepared. that's obvious by now. whose responsibility? stevens.

2. toi distribution was sick. that's the translation of some players quotes including doughty + it's in the stats. whose responsibility? stevens.

3. the results so far, well, it couldn't be worse really. whose responsibility? stevens.

from now on i'll try to stay away from discussions about stevens. it is what it is. and it's time to turn the page for fans as well.

As I recall Dean never said that we were rebuilding even when it was clear that we were.

Something went wrong between agent and player. We know Brisson is Luc’s BFF and appears the tandem tried to pull a fast one over Patches who promptly canned Brisson.

That’s not good and certainly not good for Luc’s reputation around the league.

Pacioretty didn’t like what was being offered and went with a new agent who got him a more regrettable contract. That “botch” ended up benefitting the Kings.

Kovalchuk is leading the Kings with 11 points. Pacioretty has as many points as Forbort.

Can you imagine how bad things would be right now if the Kings acquired Pacioretty in exchange for a 1st and signed him to an extension?

We'd still be the worst team in the league, with another boat anchor contract, and no 1st to top it off (a 1st that could very well be a top 5 pick).

We'd be at the lowest point in franchise history since the 90's.

Do you think Brisson was working in the interest of Luc or Patches? You think those two were ethical in negotiations?

I have no problems with the Kings reaching out and testing the waters on any player young or old. Blake was looking to add offense and looked into Patches which is a good thing, when he found out either the term Patches wanted or the cost to acquire him he backed out or gave him an offer he thought was fair but Patches didn’t.

Either way it did not work out or fit in Blake’s plan so it didn’t happen and he went out and got Kovy.

Can’t add to the team without testing the waters.

It should matter because people around the NHL saw this playing out. I think everyone is in agreement that the contract offered would have been a disaster.

The issue is that they even offered it and how it was offered.

You’re really grasping at straws here. They offered a contract that was never signed. So how or why does this hurt the Kings?

Lombardi offered several contracts that would have been disasters had they been signed as well, like Brad Richards and Daniel Briere. They never signed. So what?

It hurts the Kings because as I said, something happened between Brisson who is Luc’s BFF and Patches with this negotiation. Brisson was also Blake’s agent back in the day.

So it’s odd that a player refused the terms and immediately turns around and fired Brisson right after the draft. Players reject deals all the time so its odd.

Luc & Rob are mouthpieces for AEG. Internally, I’m sure they’re all aware how screwed the franchise is for the next 5 years. None of them (Beckerman on down) is willing to put their jobs on the line by committing to a major tear down and rapid rebuild into contender status.

The only strategy which explains their actions is playing out the string with Kopitar and Doughty, sticking to a hard internal budget and maximizing ticket and concessions revenue to drive AEGs bottom line for DTLA.

Oh, and the Stevens firing had everything to do with poor results, but it was only made to placate fans. There was no hockey related reason to bring in Desjardins ever, and what is probably early for Sturm.

To me, the symptom to look at isn't the Kings recognizing "We're not going to pay a bigger contract than this", it's the symptom of "Someone else was willing to pay more for a player whose pursuit would have hurt us more in the long run".

It happened with DL when he tried to get Lucic for so many years, and Edmonton bailed him out by offering a bigger contract. In this case, not only is Vegas in a better position to spend assets to acquire Pacioretty, but they have better cost control of a player where they can afford to overpay for him.

Frankly, the Kings should not have pursued Pacioretty both because of what he was asking but also because they don't have the flexibility of young assets to pursue someone like him. It's why I always preferred getting Kovalchuk over Pacioretty.

Just because there was a dumber GM doesn't mean Blake and Luc were smart.

On the one hand, we have a Robitaille conspiracy to get a good team/bad player contract for Pacioretty, on the other we have a Robitaille conspiracy to give Kopitar whatever he wants when Lombardi is playing hardball. Robitaille is either a corporate hack/lackey with no business being in the business of business, or he's sort of a ruthless SOB that tries to screw an employee for the betterment of the organization. Or, he's inconsistent enough to be a little bit of both, just not at the right times. Not to mention the palace coup to get the job, so he might be in it only for himself, and is unknowingly using the Kings(as he is incompetent) as a vehicle to a personal destiny of ruin.

Either way, chaos, bring it.
