Steven Stamkos is truly lucky that he plays for Tampa Bay

Watched game 7 and think it was late in the 2nd when I realized he was even playing, don’t think the announcers said his name for anything before that, looks to be a PP specialist at this point.

And just maybe, a guy who has been captain since 2014 (when another star player wanted to leave) has been a small part of creating that culture.
That’s the thing that a lot of people don’t realize. There’s a reason Vinik has since called the day Stamkos re-signed as one of the most important in franchise history. It started the culture and commitment to winning in this city. Days later Hedman signed his sweetheart deal and since then Tampa is a place that players want to play and are willing to take discounts to be part of it.

It's rare to see a 1OA more or less get carried to a Cup while still near his prime years. Speaks to Tampa's drafting.

He was, but we also got way more power plays in the first 2 rounds, so that's why.
The Florida series also wasn't very tight-checking. Way more space. Stamkos is fine, probably still elite, until we play in a series without any space. The NYI series is pretty much a snapshot of what goes wrong for him in the playoffs.

He's had a couple significant injuries which I think slowed him down a bit.

I'm going to say he was smart instead of lucky. He flirted with the idea of leaving tampa a few years ago but ultimately signed with them during free agency. I don't even know if he left money on the table because of Florida taxes being low, but he probably saw what was building in tampa and wanted to remain a part of it.

Stammer’s secondary scoring at this point, and has not had that true signature/epic individual playoff run yet (and likely never will). That said, he’s a phenomenal leader that’s had many great individual nights/seasons along the way.

Also, as TBs Captain he’s been instrumental in creating an enviable culture of success and excellence with his franchise. So much so, that I would safely guess virtually any UFA or draft prospect is a little giddy when TB comes a calling. That’s huge- and doesn’t happen if the Captain’s a mere “passenger”.

I just want to make 1 thing clear, I don't hate Stamkos. it's just that for almost every captain, past or present, have to be the best, second best, or even third best player. Stamkos can be the 5th-7th best player on his team. That admittedly annoys me a bit. Full credit to TB's drafting an development though.

but of course the guy had bad luck with injuries, which affected him greatly. I just wish he had a top 3 run for his team, though the chances of that happening are done.

Considering he along with Hedman saw more lean years than anyone else..... not sure if lucky is the right word to use. Yea, he should perform a lot better in the playoffs given his talent & pedigree but hes also not Rick Nash when it comes to the post season. Hes also the guy they started building this core around 13 years ago and has remained loyal the entire team, even when he had the chance to leave. Lets not act like he latched on at a good time and is just riding his teams coattails.
