Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award

I have to go with Stepan this year. It's not just his performance, it's the way he's been playing. Lots of heart, tons of forechecking.

Where is Lundqvist? Was he omitted to make the poll interesting?

For me, it's Lundqvist, AINEC.

He deserves the award for putting in the work load he has as a starting goaltender, and literally carrying this team on his back for the better part of the season. This team would be bottom three in the Conference without him.

And I think Lundqvist is that good because he is a major competitor, because he out works the competition, and he has the mind set that he is a leader on this team.

No disrespect to Stepan, but it's Lundqvist.

Voted for Powe. Such a thankless role and I really do believe we're a better team with him than without him. Plus he missed like what, 2 games after getting knocked out cold on the ice? That was inspiring.

Of course Callahan will win it like he always does

I don't think so. This has been far from his best year, and players having a career year have won it from in the past (Prust)

It's going to Step this year.

I hope most Rangers fans are smart enough to give it to a guy actually busting their ass, rather than just see Callahan and say "oh yeah that guy blocks shots or something, effort ZOMG"

I know you guys are but I worry about the unwashed masses with Callahan.

I wouldn't mind seeing Stepan get it at all. When I think of the award I think more along the lines of guys who do scrap work. But Stepan has certainly gone "Above and beyond the call of duty" based on his production alone.

Stepan has already been awarded with the most prestigious honor via Bob Richards.

He is "God-Tier".

He doesn't need this. :D

Machinehead, can you tell me why you voted for Po-Po over Stepan, Hank, and Girardi?

If I could vote, i would vote for Girardi, the man puts his body on the line every season, even more-so than Callahan. Any role Torts puts him in, he accepts and tries his best. I know he has dumb pinch ins and runs around in the D zone but that's a guy that's trying too hard. That's what this award is all about. Girardi, this ones for you. Come and get your award in your wheelchair after the season.

As far as Hank and Stepan go, I just see this award as one that goes to the guys who do the important work that's important but nobody really cares about it. Like Jed Ortmeyer who won this thing twice. Stepan and Hank are great and like I said I wouldn't mind seeing either of them get it but to me it's just more of an unsung hero type of award.

As far as Girardi goes, I also think while being a star or putting up numbers isn't necessary, you should also not be consistently awful, which he has been this season.

I see it as being misutilized Instead of being awful. Nobody in their right mind with a pulse for the team puts MDZ and Girardi together. But once again, that's our coach.

Lundqvist could win it every year because he never gets any goal support and somehow gets this team in the playoffs.

Stepan has had a great year. However, for me it would be pretty easy. Rick Nash. This team stinks without him. He's won about 8 games in the 3rd period pretty much by himself. He's the only player on the ice for the Rangers that you think will score every shift he's on.

Or Girardi hasn't been nearly good as he was last year.

But, let me guess- it's in SPITE of Torts he performed as well as he did last year, and it's BECAUSE of him that he's worse this year. Yep.

It's either Stepan or Hags. Both elevated their games this season.

People seem to mistake this award with MVP. Nash and Hank are SUPPOSED to play like elite level players. Stepan wasn't supposed to have this good of a season.

i voted for Stepan. he has done very well... better than expected during this short season... good for him... hagelin has been good but not too consistent but he will turn it around. he is still young.

It has got to be Stepan. He's been my favorite Ranger forward for a while, but I did not expect him to play the way he's been playing. Whether this level of play is sustainable is debatable, but he really has stepped it up.

Then again, maybe I'm just spoiled with the consistent competition level we all get to see from Henke.

The two most consistent from the start have been Henke and Nash. Stepan had a slow start or he'd be a consideration. Not surprised he's running away with this though, afterall, what have you done for me lately ?
