I just came aboard a few years ago with the UND guys, so not a lot of history. If the Sens are playing in the ECF in a few years with the bulk of the current core leading the way, that would lead me to conclude PD was a good GM. His vision was right, and the net effect of all the good and bad moves was a contender. If not, then he wasn't. The proof will be in the pudding.

I would expect him to not be with Ottawa to see it, as new owners want their own people, and they're not the type to wait around a few years before installing them.

I think in five years he'll be held in high regard for his work here.
For sure. There are just a few armchair GMs that feel they could have won the cup with Turris and EK65 in 2018… they have a hate-on for the scorched earth rebuild and will never get behind PD, even if he won 3 cups.

Would have been interesting to see what the 16-17 season could have looked like if we had a owner serious about winning. the fact that team was under a budget was depressing. Stalberg the big deadline acquisition.

That's revisionist.

People were upset about the rebuild because it was in large part their own decisions that led them to that being necessary, like a bad trade of their #1 center supposed to lead the charge. Pretty hard to win a cup when they'd already traded away the #1 center, financially prioritized their scrubs over the big guns, and had a bitter combative owner incapable of competing financially and forcing the team into bleeding assets and having a bad rep.

Were the fans fickle and impatient too? Sure, but lets not rewrite history now that the storm clouds are gone.

I remember hoping the Sens would trade for this guy at the 2004 deadline to replace Pothier on the bottom pair. He was the kind of heavy shotblocking dman that would have rounded out that blueline so well. But the OIlers were buyers at the deadline and ended up missed the playoffs lol.

Is there a team in the NHL that has better 'press box' shots than the Ottawa Senators? Seems like a constant meme roll. Not sure if it's by design or completely by chance but it's fantastic. Dubas in Toronto had some great clips but Dorion is on a completely different level. And it's seemingly continued into new ownership.

Weird.

all started with the Alfie Nacho-gate.

This all just leads to Dorion getting canned at some point here . It’s quite obvious

He is the first fall guy
He is now up, and ready to walk the plank, question is how long is that plank, and how many steps he has left, until he reaches the end…

If I was PD I’d be preparing to get out of there.
Unless things go really well between the three and they’re on the same page etc and are excited to get things going together.
But I’m not sure that sounds likely.
I feel for Pierre now. He was left without an owner, or poho just got a new agm. Was probably doing a lot of extra things himself. And as much as I’ve been heavily critical he has to get credit for the team we have now which is pretty solid.
I’m guessing somewhere inside he’s feeling under appreciated and uncomfortable with 2 new guys coming in to the situation and taking over like that after he’s been working his ass off to make the best of a weird and crappy situation. Suddenly everyone wants to talk with the new guys and Pierre is just there. Pretty massive shift for him.

I don't think PD is a fool and he'd be a fool to not understand over the last 9 months that major changes were forthcoming

Preparing to leave? Where would he go ? He's an NHL GM. There's only 31 other such jobs and all are currently filled. And maybe 2/3rds of those GMs have A POHO type boss and again, those jobs are all filled.

Right now, there's nowhere to go

Think of another/any position. Doesn’t have to be gm. Right, I’m sure he’s thought of it. I’m just saying.

The GM’s job is Pierre’s to lose. No matter who the GM is, that person will be held accountable. It’s a results-based job and if Pierre can’t get the job done with the support that he has been given, then he will be shown the door. At this point, I don’t think there’s an agenda whereas they’re waiting for the perfect moment to fire him. If Pierre successfully resolves the Pinto contract and the team does well on the ice, then there’s no point in firing the guy who is doing his job.

It's all unknown unless/until something changes. We don't know if this is a trial period or just an interim period.

I agree that Pierre has certainly done some good things in putting the current team together.

I also think that in virtually any other market, he wouldn't still be here to build a second team.

Not yet. Andlauer has only talked about him being in his corner so far.
Given the last Friday media availability, Andlauer hinted that there may be another media event next Friday.

I think Alfredsson will soon join the team in some capacity but the org and Alfie will have to figure out what that will be and who he will report to.

This is likely a decision to be made by Staois, with Andlauer in agreement, and not a decision to be made by Dorion, whose authority and position in the org structure has now been affected (reduced) with a POHO in place.

Some good; some bad. On the whole, I think the team can do better.

“The only thing that’s changed for Pierre is that he’s got more support with me and to collaborate on ideas and executing moving forward. We have a lot to be excited about,” Staios said. “But there’s a tremendous amount of work to do that we’re all up for.

“And I look forward to working with Pierre on the day-to-day to be able to take this team to another level.”

Sounds like a dynamic duo....

Apparently Trent Mann has been hired by Pittsburgh, where he’s player development and scouting advisor.

Anyone think his inappropriate scouting info leak was to Dubas?

If after 8 years of diligently doing my job, thinking things were going so well, my new boss came in and said that there was “still a tremendous amount of work to do” to get things up to their standards, I’d be embarrassed.

How awkward would it be to sit up there while the guy who’s in charge of your paycheque implies, over and over again, that the org you were running is not yet close to being “best in class”. After 8 years of work! Yikes, you gotta feel for Pierre.
