Stepan, Callahan, and McDonagh on Team USA (Continued U.S. Roster Discussion)

Damn right it is! I still can't grasp the Orpik selection though. Time will tell, I guess..
 
If McDonagh doesn't get 1st or 2nd pair minutes USA is a joke. Mc might be the most underrated player in the league.
 
Omitting Bobby Ryan just reeks of a bunch of guys overthinking the situation. The team is strong physically and defensively. You need goals. Bobby Ryan scores goals. That article says that someone said he skates "sleepily." What does that even mean? Apparently this week it became trendy to say Bobby Ryan is a bad skater. I've never had that impression from watching him, including when he played for us in the last Olympics. I've never heard fans criticize that aspect of his game.
 
McDonagh has to get big minutes. I don't think Fowler is going to play much 5v5. Fowler can only play LD and Suter and McDonagh are better than him. The best way to use him here is to give him soft minutes, let him get a lot of offensive zone faceoffs and PP time. Suter is going to be the #1 and probably play 25+.

This tournament could be Faulk's coming out party. I hope Faulk or Shattenkirk get paired with Suter and that's your shut down pair. Speed and size.
 
They just called Jack Johnson a defensive stalwart on NHL network.

How ****ing stupid are these people? What's worse is they get paid for being idiots.
 
It's easy enough to figure out why Martin and Orpik are on the team. Just look at who the US coach is--Dan Bylsma. He pairs them and you can figure they'll be in the lineup every night.
 
I can't believe Orpik was put on the roster. I also can't believe Ryan was snubbed. Blake Wheeler making it is sort of surprising, but not really. I agree that it was smart to load up the bottom 6 with really good two way forwards, a line of Brown-Backes-Callahan will destroy lower lines of softer international teams.

My line up would be

Parise-Kesler-Kane
JVR-Stepan-Kessel
Pacioretty-Pavelski-Wheeler
Brown-Backes-Callahan

McD-Suter
Martin-Shattenkirk
Fowler-Carlson
 
You know it's funny how some people are saying that Cally and Step should not have made it, where as no one questioned Dustin Brown. They are not going to look at 20 something games for just this season, they are looking at the last few seasons. Dustin Brown is having a horrible season. 13 points in 40 games, Cally has 13 points in only 23 games. Cally and Step are having average seasons, yeah it's been up and down, but compared to Brown's season it looks like they are playing like elite forwards this season.

i would replace Wheeler with Oshie and change up the defense a bit.

This. Maybe switch Shatty and Faulk, but this would be my lines as well.

Edit: forgot about Statsny. Put him in over Stepan.

Is Stepan really going to be the #2 center on the 2nd best roster in the world? Dude gets **** on every day on the Rangers but he's good enough to be the #2 on team USA?

Blake wheeler over Bobby Ryan?... looks like there going to try to win 2-1.... seriously think Canada is going to **** them..also watch out for Sweden
 
I think Russia wins it all. My sleeper pick is Sweden. I'll root for USA. I have no idea how Canada and USA will play on the larger ice, its a different game.

pretty sure Suter plays the left. i know Weber plays the right and i thought they were a pairing.
