Stepan, Callahan, and McDonagh on Team USA (Continued U.S. Roster Discussion)

I hear ya. But ultimately all that really matters is he will be locked into second pair LD when all is said and done.

Oh ok, so that's their projected lineup? For a second I worried it was the final lineup. If McDonagh is not in the top 6 it'll be travesty. Also look at that ******* Bylsma and his nepotism. Orpik on Olympic ice over Yandle? Really?

Obviously, regarding the US players, I'm not as knowledgable (is that a word?) as you guys, but IMO it's a real solid roster. The Orpik selection is a real headscratcher. I really can't grasp that one.

I can fully understand why they left out Buff, though. He's quite a mess in the defensive zone, out of position more than not. With the Olympics being played on big ice surface I guess they feared he'd get exposed. Same with Yandle, I guess.

The only concern of mine (except for the Orpik selection) is whether the team is gonna score enough. They will probably be very tough to score on, lot's of defensively responsible, grinding forwards but a Bobby Ryan type of sniper might come in handy. Just my 0.2.

I don't really think Callahan or Stepan deservs a roster spot, but I can definitely see why they got selected. I'm glad they made it. Can't wait for the games to begin!

Some journalists/reporters just aren't as knowledgable as they ought to be. Like that guy reviewing a NIN concert writing: "NIN closed the night with a slow and smoky cover of Johnny Cash's 'Hurt'".. :)
 
So at least 6 Rangers will play in the Olympics? I guess Nash is in for Canada, Lundqvist for Sweden and Zuccarello for Norway.

to be fair, the Cash cover is a better version so it's an understandable mistake :)

Per the excellent ESPN article, the coaches didn't even have Bobby Ryan on the PP on potential rosters.

Pretty strong consensus by all the USA GMs/advistors that Bobby Ryan doesn't play with passion (Poile saying he skates 'sleepy'). Burke makes it very clear he dislikes Ryan, and would of rather selected Jack Johnson in the Crosby draft.
 
stepan and callahan are fortunate that team usa decided to pick their team after last season and didn't watch any of the games this year.

McDonagh will be in the Top 4 barring some really stupid decision making. Relax, **** the NHL Network.
 
Its not a matter of picking the best players its picking the right players.

I like the mix. The actual games will tell us if they got the RIGHT players

I'm in no way a hardcore fan of either NIN or JC, but I like both versions. I'm now eagerly waiting for Meshuggah (RATM would do, as well) to do their version.. :)

Thanks for the link, great read. Yeah, these people are paid to know these kind of things. There were hints about bad morale/work ethic for years before he got traded. He strikes me as being somewhat selfish and disinterested at times. They probably had good reasons to cut him.

I'd say Stepan made it because he is a centerman. What are the options at center? Dubinsky? Bonino?
 
Orpik pick was bad, i'm excited about the rest of the team though.

Whoever said Yandle over Fowler was spot on, though. Yandle is better than Fowler at everything- hell, I wish it was Yandle AND Fowler with Orpik left home.
 
I get Bylsma is the coach and should have a say in the matter here but I didn't think in this day and age he would be able to go full Hurb Brooks and bring BOTH Orpik and Martin I mean common the ice is how much bigger I cannot see any situation where Orpik fairs well on that ice surface.
