Burke basically called Ryan worthless

also said he "has no intensity and can't even spell intensity"

Which made me feel bad for Ryan, but then he got in front of a camera crew and basically said "hey Burke!!! In.. 10... City!" which probably means he's gonna have a hard time making future US teams as well unless he's perceived to grow up a lot before the next games. Plenty of time, and I understand his disappointment, but he didn't do himself any favors.

Bobby Ryan had full rights to say what he did. He wouldn't even need to say it if Burke kept that fat mouth of his closed.

If I were Bobby Ryan, Kyle Okposo Keith Yandle etc I'd never play for USA hockey again. I would never go to the World Championships. I would tell them all find somebody else.

Look, USA hockey has every right to pick the players but for them to say that they didn't know they didn't have creative control is garbage. It's also probably a lie.

As a person? Sure. As a player? Not so sure. The problem is you really can't do anything but make enemies or create future problems for yourself when you speak out like that as a player. As a man he has the right to say how he feels and he's not out of line but as a player you're basically cattle and now he's self entitled cattle. Just my $.02. Getting it off his chest probably felt good but doesn't actually do him any good besides that. That's all.

Then all you'd be doing is alienating yourself. If every player who ever got cut had the same attitude then what a bunch of thin skinned babies we'd have representing our country. You don't get everything you want. There's limited roster spots and it doesn't matter how deserving you perceive yourself to be. A group of people who have been placed in charge considered dozens of options and ultimately you fell just shy. You aren't owed anything.

Serioiusly? Okposo has been perfectly average, if not an underachiever until this year. If he threw a tantrum about not being picked based on 42 great games, he'd look like a fool.

Stepan didn't deserve to be in the Olympic team. They should've picked Okposo. He is gret this season for the Isles. Their color commentator was very upset and anry before the Isles game, saying that it is very unfair to the player and the Islanders organization.

HOwie and Butch whine about Okposo being left off everytime he gets a shot on goal. The fact is he's had a mediocre career (well below expectations) and now that he's been paired with John Tavares he is producing. Step on the other hand has been more consistent and productive, is a strong defensive player, is a center and led the US to WJC Gold in 2010 (don't underestimate the value of that).

These two guys were not competing for the same spot. Okposo was competing with Bobby Ryan, MaxPac, Wheeler, Oshie and Saad and he lost out. As did Saad who to me looks like a better player than Okposo as is Bobby Ryan.

Yes, Seriously. As I said and you ignored USA hockey has every right to pick the players they want. To allow this much access to a reporter and hide behind "I didn't know we didn't have final say on the article" is bogus. It shows how stupid the people running USA hockey are. It's a complete joke that they said these comments in front of a reporter. It shows a lack of respect for not only the players that were picked but for the players they left off.

Brian Burke should resign his position at USA hockey.

I don't have an issue that these guys were cut. I have an issue with the stuff they said in front of a reporter.

The players aren't owed anything and USA hockey isn't owed anything. These players aren't fighting a war for USA hockey, they are playing for USA hockey. They aren't defending the flag. They are playing a sport for free. If I was a player in that article I would ignore every invitation for the World Championships, when USA hockey needs the players more then the players need USA hockey.

stepan and cally deserve to be there based on their play last year...not this year. oh well, maybe itll help shake em outta their funk.

My bad. I've been out of the loop for a couple days and just really read into what was said a few minutes ago. You're right, it's pretty ridiculous, especially about Ryan. Behind closed doors, it's honest, though unnecessarily harsh, criticism of players, but in front of the media its' just too much. I'm not sure I agree that they shouldn't play for USA in the future, but I see where you're coming from.

While the tears of Islanders fans are delicious, I can't stand them *****ing about Okposo. Over Callahan? Maybe I can understand that. Let's say Okposo made it over Callahan though, they'd be moaning about how KO isn't in the top-6, let's be real. On top of that, I think they'll be okay with it when Callahan is out there on the PK. He and Drury were clutch in 2010. And as far as 2010 goes, the same **** was happening. Islanders fans moaning about Okposo not being on the team. Team gets silver. Let's take a chill pill here, Isles.

And on the Stepan front, they're even more ridiculous. They'll be happy Stepan is there if a center goes down. What's Okposo going to do if a center goes down? Nothing.

****ing Isles fans.

And I like how they essentially ignore the article, and don't even realize that Okposo was barely mentioned in the process.

Only reason it would make sense for Okposo to go over Callahan is because of injuries. Cally was there in 2010 and has been better than Okposo every year except this one, and brings more consistently to the role they would want that spot to fill.

Anyone *****ing over Callahan using justification other than "he's injured, so he might not be as good" is totally out to lunch.

The Scott Burnside ESPN article was possibly one of the finest inside looks and articles in the longest time (maybe even since the Burke trade deadline piece a few years ago).

I very strongly support the players, but they are entertainers. The NHL needs more reporting of that type of access, regardless of who's feelings get hurt.

I only wish the selection committees for all other national teams provided the same level of access (which we now know will never happen again). Per Poile's interview today, he thought they would get the ability to review the material before release (just like 24/7), didn't happen. Everyone is making too big a deal over an article.

I can understand why Bobby Ryan wasn't picked. I don't agree with it because he could play 1st line for Team USA, but I can see where they are coming from.

The only player I don't like is Brooks Orpik. EJ is a better player in EVERY SINGLE ASPECT. EJ was having a terrific year, he's a much better skater and he's a much better D-man. So Brooks Orpik can hit people? Great. He's gonna have trouble touching them when they blow right past him.

People might think I'm a crazy homer, but Kreider would have been great in the Olympic tournament.

Speed, size and a solid performer in big game situations. I wonder if he was given any consideration at all.

Kreider will be there in the future if he keeps it up. For now all of these guys are better for the roles they'll be in. I agree 100% about EJ. I'd take him over Orpik 100/100 times.

I just realized: Ryan McDonagh would make team Canada.

He's better than Vlasic and Hamhuis in a similar role.
