If I'm a match I'll donate for a top four Dman although I doubt he wants my liver.

That sucks though I hope he finds someone. I do wonder how related his liver failure is to alcohol consumption.

Sorry to hear that Mr. Melnyk is ill. I hope he gets the treatment he needs to get through this and get well soon. He has been the best owner this Senators team has ever had and I hope he remains the owner for many more years. Good luck and health Mr. Melnyk.

The one glimmer of hope here is that liver transplants have a high success rate. In fact, the recipients usually find that their quality of life improves quickly post-surgery, as most were ill for some time while waiting for the transplant. A very good friend of mine had a liver transplant a few years ago and is doing very well, working out regularly and leading a normal life. I pray that Eugene meets with the same good fortune.

I'm seriously considering going for the testing, but I don't think my family would approve.

This is tragic. Holy ****.

There are probably lots of people on the wait list. Melnyk is fortunate he has the power and influence to solicit a large audience, very publicly.

Seems like it's a last resort to go public with the demand as they are saying his need is urgent. Melnyk was apparently very reluctant to allow them to do this.

I filled it all out, I match his blood type. I don't have a fax machine. The Sens said we could e-mail it to them and they'll fax it in, anyone have that email?

If you donate your liver dont you die?

ahh nvm. Not giving up your whole liver

Damn i guess that explains his sickly appearance and not being there for the playoffs.

For all the trouble melnyk gets from fans he has done a lot of good for the franchise. Hope he gets well. Would hate to have Wirtz situation if he passes

If you donate your liver dont you die?
This process involves the removal of a portion of the living donor’s liver so it can be transplanted into the recipient patient
The liver is a highly resilient organ that can regenerate itself within 90-120 days and return back to its normal size
To date, over 600 live liver donor transplants have been performed at the University Health Network. All donors have returned to normal lives with no restrictions

this sounds urgent. i did not have time to be listening to much of the press conference but i thought i heard that if you wait a week to apply it will be to late. that means he has something like 7-10 days left?

hope he gets better

I didn't listen to the presser, but based on tweets timing is urgent. Also said Melnyk will not leave hospital until he can get the transplant.

i hadnt read the article lol just saw the report on the television that he needed a liver transplant and then saw people saying they were going to be a donor
i just copypasta if anyone else had the same question. I also found these two bits interesting:

Melnyk was admitted to hospital three weeks ago as a result of the onset of liver-related complications
The Melnyk family’s efforts have yielded a number of potential donor candidates who have been extensively tested. These efforts continue in earnest but have so far not yielded a suitable donor

Wow, I had no idea Mr. Melnyk was sick. I hope they find a suitable donor.

And a celebrity like this spurring people to be tested for a liver match will have a positive result for other patients needing a liver transplant. More people will be tested, and more matches for other patients will be found.

Again guys, if you're considering it but on the fence I'd recommend applying before it's too late. One of us could be the one to save a life.
