State of the Canucks & Goodbye Hammer ='(

bye bye subban and gaunce

What is left to trade? I mean its impossible to defend Granlund /Shinkaruk trade. No value there and the timing was way off.

So is Benning doing this just for fun? It seems like this is just entertainment for himself. I havnt seen him win a trade yet.

If he had left well enough alone there would be Gaunce and Shinkaruk for C/LW duties as RW should be good.

(I have lost any remaining faith in the management and coaching of this team)

All the best wishes to Hammer, now I can officially cheer for the Stars when they make the playoffs. Now they just gotta get their damn goalies in line...Bishop maybe?

Happy Hamhuis was not re-signed. It was past time for him to go. He should have been traded 2 year ago.

Did anyone from the media ask Benning what his reason for not signing Hamhuis was?

Goodbye Hammer, thank goodness this GM isn't some emotional fool like so many fans. I appreciate Hammer but so glad the Canucks are beginning a new chapter. If only we can dump Burrows too.

Hammer will be sorely missed on the blueline. If hockey was based on production and value to Bennings eyes, Sbisa should have been fired a long time ago. That would have allowed us to keep Hammer home.

My favourite moment of Hammer was... I don't think I have one he was just a completely solid dman but I don't remember any significant play/goal. My favourite thing about Hammer was his consistency, something sorely lacking with this franchise. I'll always remember his gold medal win in 2014 (even if he played a lesser role).

I am not happy with the lack of direction for this franchise and for that reason I advocate to boycott buying $100+ tickets to watch this dumpster fire inferno and also to boycott buying any merch.

If the team was reasonable with its expections and would just ice a young team insulated with vets like Matt Martin through FA I would buy tickets/merch at fair value ($10-30) tickets but this team is hot garbage. Bleeding assets (picks, players, $$) and depleting the farm to ice a half *** hockey team is not what I want to watch.

Never said you weren't allowed an opinion. I'm just challenging that opinion because I disagree with you. My opinion is based on stats and analytics, so I'm quite confident in my assessment. Not to mention I witnessed the train wreck of last season. So I'm legitimately curious why you have this opinion.

Analytics based on stats not designed or/and poorly collected to analyze what you're trying to determine. I guess ... put in zero effort, load up a google window, pick a random number that supports your trashing of everything Canucks and wonder why no one agrees with you.

No problem. :handclap:

Yeah, thank goodness Benning is smart enough to realize that the team needs to tank, and paying Sbisa more money than Hamhuis is set to make is a great way to achieve that. He can even sell it to some as a "new chapter" even if it's simply a massive downgrade to anyone with a lick of sense.

It's a sad thing being a good defenceman in the NHL. When you're doing things, everyone's like yay you're so dependable. When things aren't going well, you're left out to rot in the blazing sun.

We got a lot of dmen this year though. I'm all for some defensive depth.

Edler - Tanev / Larsen
Sbisa - Tanev / Larsen
Hutton - Gudbranson
Pedan (Sbisa) - Tryamkin
Billen - Subban (Biega)

Not to mention:
Stecher in the AHL

looking forward to watching this team next year. not especially big improvements with trades (eriksson/vrbata, gud/hamhuis) but we will improve from within as the kids should will all be a year older and better. horvat, virtanen, mccann, shinkaruk, list goes on.

I hate to break it to you...

I think I might be the only ones excited for next season.

#We acquired a top 6 forward
# Acquired a top 4 shutdown defensemen who has some size and grit
# Improved our prospect pool with Juolevi
# Young guys only getting better with a great supporting cast of Veterans (Sedins, Eriksson, Burrows, etc.)

As much as I love seeing our young guys play it is very important that we still instill a winning culture with good veterans for their development. Screw the Edmonton route. Our team may not look as shinny on paper but I believe we will suprise many next season.

We are definitely a better team than last year with better grit and depth. I think we are in for a surprising season and can't wait to see what the hard hitters will bring to the team.

That being said, i feel like we mortgaged the next decade to feel good about the next 2-3 years. Are the Canucks better in a vacuum? Absolutely. But has the gap been closed between us and our division rivals? teams like Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Edmonton have either closed the gap tremendously when they were behind us or (for those that were ahead of us) have widened it considerably when it comes to stockpiling talent in their prospect pools and improving their NHL rosters. We acquired two blue chip prospects in 3 years while other teams have built future cores.

it won't show on the ice next year or even the next year, but I think we're due for a world of hurt once the Sedins retire.

I remember hearing all offseason last year how important it was to not sell off our vets because how much our veteran presence and "winning culture" will help the development of our young guys. Then the actual season happened. This team and all its veterans completely gave up during the 2nd half of the season, couldn't keep the rookies in check and our "winning culture" lol yeah so much for that. This team needs a full rebuild.Obviously the owners and Jim Benning don't feel that way so until we actually commit to a rebuild I will continue to not watch , spend any money, and turn down free tickets when it comes to this team. I will not support this garbage product or an ownership group who's number 1 goal is playoff revenue over a Stanley Cup.

Sorry to see him go. but we have a ton of depth (most of it borderline AHL quality) on D now.

I still think the biggest issue is going to be Tramkin. If this kid develops at all for the next 3 - 4 years, he could be a true number one D man, though not one with offensive numbers I don't think.

But between Larsen, Juolvi and Subban, one thinks in 2 to 3 years we will have a pretty good offense from the D. And still have Tryamkin and Gudbranson being large and mean. And will have Huton and Tanev too.

I know everyone is being negative, but that is a pretty impresive young D.

The team was a laughingstock yesterday and after signing a 31 year old for 6 years it remains one today. One of the worst franchises in the NHL. Very little in the way of prospects. Awful NHL level defense. And still one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

Do everyone on here a favor and don't follow the team anymore then.

actually i prefer infinitely more now that he has bigger and much more devastatingly poisonous fish to fry than the sucky soft loser sedins

Shinkaruk, McCann and this year 2nd is mortgaging the future?

Hyperbole, methinks

Unless you mean signing somebody decent for market value rather tanking.... The latter was never a realistic option

I too did not want six years for any of these UFA's, but Ericsson is not the end of the world. Now we need to do whatever we can to improve pool..

What hard hitters? Other than Gudbranson?

The team is still small and soft within the division. I was hoping we would end up with Tkakchuk and Lucic if we had to sign a FA but we went the softer route with Juolevi and Eriksson.

The Oilers have also been too small but look at them now:

Lucic 6'3
Kassian 6'3
Maroon 6'3
Draisaitl 6'2
Larsson 6'3
Nurse 6'4
Klefbom 6'3
Puljujarvi 6'3
Pouliot 6'3
Gazdic 6'3
Fayne 6'3
Reinhart 6'3

Our team is depressing

In all honesty, i think Sedins are still in tremendous shape. They'll probably get a 2 year extension at $5.5-6.5m to their existing contract since they signed Eriksson to that massive contract so we're "insulated" for 4-5 years maybe?
