Cam has been good and I'm a believer in getting the hot goalie starts, but there is no question who is the more talented goaltender. Henrik is going to break the NYR career wins record this season. Not even in the conversation. We should just count our lucky stars that the one year Henrik has a poor half season, our backup accumulates wins in a timely fashion.
stupid AV has no allegiance to Hank, whatsoever. He knows he could get fired, and he's trying to save his job. Right now, Talbot is playing better, so that's who AV feels gives him the best chance to save his job, which he never should have been hired for in the first place.

Why are henrik lovers so defensive? I think the thread suggests we play the goalie that gets us more wins today for whatever reasons. Goal is to win games not worry about the status of an individual. While Henrik was vezzzz like in the past, As with any investments, past performance does not guarantee future results. If he wins, he plays. If talbot wins, talbot plays. Simple as that. I think the nightmare scenario is that we have a $8.5 mio backup but it's way way too early to suggest that scenario.

Talent is one thing and results are another. I'm not arguing that Talbot is more talented but he is getting better results. The number of soft ones that Lundqvist has let in this year has hurt our team a lot. Talbot has not been letting in soft ones.
This same argument of yours could have been used between Richards and Stepan last year. Richards was not doing the job and Stepan was picking up the slack. Richards deserved his benching in the playoffs no ifs ands or buts. There's a level of performance that a player has to have to measure up to the money he's making if your team is going to be a good one. The best teams get the best performances out of their best players. Lundqvist has not been giving good performances. If Talbot gets more starts--it's only because he needs to play better than he has.
I'm definitely not one of those people. I do understand (and basically agree with) going with the hot goalie. I'm just interested to see how it plays out with AV's seat most likely getting warmer if the team doesn't turn it around. That said, I don't think he gets fired mid-season, but I also wouldn't be terribly surprised if he did.

hanks a big boy with a whopping contract. hes been down right awful but so have the skaters in front of him.
this team needs wins right now and i hate to say it but we most probably would have a few more if talbot had started a few more games recently. hank has just not played well enough for us to win recently.
having said that, hank is still the king. hes earned some wiggle room with me. a vezina, a gold medal and his career wins/shutout numbers will do that.
talbot is a new tender. the book isnt written on him yet. first time through the league, all that stuff. hes no where near as good as he seems right now and hank is no where near as bad as hes playing.
i think we will see the real henrik back after sochi. until then, play the hot guy irregardless of what they are paid.

The more Talbot starts the more likely it is the Rangers can trade him for something quite substantial in the offseason, as long as he continues to look good. Personally I don't think he can keep this up, especially because we haven't seen him in scrambly situations much, and when we have he gets beat. Too bad HL can't handle the puck like CT.

Agreed. Huge difference with how the team plays. And it's not just a coincidence any more. Their compete level and defensive coverage is vastly superior with Cam in net. I'm not sure if it's because Cam is a rookie, or they just feel like taking some nights off, but last night was another example of a strong defensive system in front of him with limited chances.
IMO, the Rangers have only played poorly one night in front of Talbot, and it was against the Jets when he let up 4 goals.

I was imitating the general notion of most fans on here who legitimately think it's a smart move to hand the reigns over to Talbot for playing 8 games.

I think that saying Cam is our number 1 now permanently and that Hank should back him up is wrong, obviously. However, right now he is the better goalie and we need to let him play. Once Hank gets his groove back then we can go back to him but right now it should be Talbot starting.. FOR NOW.

But let's lay down some arrogant though accurate inarguable logic here for a second: Hank has sucked in way too many games. He's the best goalie in the world in my opinion, but suffers from infected mentality from time to time. More than most goalies, the mental aspect of his game is huge, and you can just see how much it all means to him and how much it all must swirl around in his head. Hank's problem right now is Hank, and I bet he knows it too. It's not physical, it's not due to lack of skill, it's due to a mental infection.
Having that said, Hank is a fierce competitor and always bounces back. This is his longest mental infection he's had yet though, but we all know that he WILL come out of it. Sometimes, the best medicine is to get out there and work your way through it. But other times, it can compound the problem. That's what's happening here. Much like with any infection (yes, even rhetorical ones), it will get better with time. At this point, I think it's beyond clear that Hank needs a breather, a reset, some work with Benoit and some pressure taken off of him. Sitting Henrik for handful of games is not a slap in his face, but probably something at this point he'd welcome. It would be FOR him, to HELP him, not as a sign of disrespect.
The fact is that overall, Cam has been stellar, and not as a fluke, but as the real deal. He has confidence, presence and a sense of calm and control. He has more than earned himself some more starts, and he may be the key to helping to turn this thing around. Not by taking over Hank's spot, not by becoming the #1, but by giving our true #1 the time, space and lack of pressure needed to heal himself, so that the KING can come back and feel like himself, and then lead us the rest of the way.
Think about it. Do you think Hank likes his numbers? Likes how many losses we've suffered with him at the helm? Do you think he feels good about where we are in the standings? This is killing him. You know it is. Right now, each game he's out there is adding to his problem. So what do you think it would do for him if he sat a few games, we started winning a few with Cam in net, got ourselves above .500 and back in the playoffs. If the team started feeling better about themselves, this dark period behind us, and the whole locker room feeling like a different place. Do you think he'd be bitter? Have thoughts of "How dare they sit me!!!", or do you think he'd come back and go out there and show why he's the king, with the weight of the world off his shoulders and his mind clear, and go back to playing like and sounding like the Hank we believe in and love?
Cam can handle it. Cam can get us the wins we need right now in the short term that can move us forward in the standings, erase the dark cloud in the locker room, get the team feeling better about themselves and give Hank the room, space, time and lack of pressure he needs to lift himself up. This isn't because Cam is god, it's not because Hank sucks or should be traded, it isn't a sign of disrespect, a goalie controversy, nor an indication or suggestion in any slight way that he should be the starter. It is simply a short term plan that is a win win all the way around.
