After the newness of RO wears off, people will realize how mediocre it is. Very boring characters.

That will happen with TFA as well. People loved that movie (me included) because it was the first Star Wars movie in cinemas in 10 years. When The Phantom Menace came out, people were raving. There are Youtube videos of people responding to the movie and it was nothing but positive.

I did not see TFA in a theater but I liked Rogue One much better. I was not a fan of Fin's character in TFA at all. Kylo not walking all over him even when injured was a joke IMO.

I don't get how so many people are saying that the characters are unlikable? Jyn, K2O, as well as the blind guy and his friend were all likable characters IMO, especially the latter 3. Not sure how anyone could say that Fin and Rey are so much more likable? I wasn't a huge fan of Kassian or Forrest Whitakers character though to be fair.

Overall I thought that it was very solid movie.

I think this is the direction Star Wars movies should be going in. TFA was kinda bad. TFA was fun to see just because it was so long since the previous movies but this is just a year later, and puts into perspective how goofy TFA was. Maybe it will be the same with this after a view more viewings but it seemed to be done properly. The whole point of the movie was all these people sacrificing their lives for a cause, so in a sense I sort of a appreciated how none of them were really delved into deeply besides the lead. It has a different kind of impact for that reason. None of them were too interesting in this movie but that's sort of how people are. They're kind of all collectively one hero rather than just Rey or Luke.

Newness aside, I don't think Rogue One is worse than TPM or even ROTS. The prequels are legitimately awful.

Rogue One was great as a Star Wars war movie, and I rank it in my top 4 because I like that it was completely different than any other Star Wars movie that we've seen. While the characters themselves may be "forgettable", their actions weren't and for me that's what counted in this movie.

That's how I feel, and I appreciate that because it's more true to life, and different from all the others. There were a bunch of moments in TFA where I was like "ok that's pretty ****ing stupid but I'll put it aside for now just because".

I'll have to see this again but nothing stood out as cringey, and it had the right amount of Easter eggs and self-referential stuff without being goofy and saccharine like TFA.

What was so interesting about Fin or Rey anyway? They had a bunch of back-and-forth jokes but Fin just bailing on the Empire so abruptly? Within like the first 10 minutes of the movie? There were way, way more things in that movie that didn't make sense. This movie didn't shoot for the stars IMO but they did it right. There were moments in TFA where they might as well have looked directly at the camera and winked.

My favorite part of the movie:

[SPOIL]Vader walking through everyone at the end like a cat playing with a mouse. Just awesome![/SPOIL]

Christ. For the last time. Kylo was messing with Finn. He sent a force strong Rey into the trees and knocked her out. He could've ended Finn without a lightsaber if he wanted to. But he saw Vader's first lightsaber and most likely felt the need to fight for it.

No more than 5 seconds after he slipped and let Finn get a shot in, he stopped messing around and dropped Finn like the amateur he was.

TFA was way too goofy with modern "humor" references that didn't fit and took you out of the moment and magical place that was the Star Wars universe. RO had some humor but it was topical and didn't take away from the experience.

"Droid, please" and other lines like it, while seemingly innocent, killed the mood and just didn't feel like Star Wars.

Also, I was pretty emotional at the end of RO. When the guy was trying to get the door open or have someone take the plans, I almost stood up and screamed "just ****ing throw it! Vader can't get his hands on that!"

I saw it tonight and really enjoyed it. I think they did a good job of tying the stuff into ANH they needed to (although there were a couple of cameos they probably could have done without). I also loved the Rebels nod with "General Syndulla" being paged in the Rebel base.

The battle sequences were well done I thought. Any time I get to see X-Wings in battle I'm happy.

Overall I still think I enjoyed TFA more, but not by much.

What other lines? I know Droid please was a bad one but other than that?

The one where Fin is talking to Phasma after he captures her as well as his first interaction with Chewbacca.

They aren't bad lines for movies in general, but the point of Star Wars is that its not Earth and it's a different, fantasy universe. Even TPM had more structured and proper dialog at times. This dialog felt too close to what you'd hear at a sporting event or in a bar. It just wasn't Star Wars (to me, personally). I'm not against humor in general, but I am against Earth-like humor in the star wars universe.

To sum that up in one sentence, TFA just didn't feel like a Star Wars movie for the goofy dialog alone.

They had excellent character development, but with better dialog it would definitely be among my top3 star wars movies.

Christ. For the last time. Kylo was messing with Finn. He sent a force strong Rey into the trees and knocked her out. He could've ended Finn without a lightSabre if he wanted to. But he saw Vader's first lightSabre and most likely felt the need to fight for it.

No more than 5 seconds after he slipped and let Finn get a shot in, he stopped messing around and dropped Finn like the amateur he was.

So you yell "TRAITOR!" at a guy and you go lightly on him while you are bleeding out? I could see him wanting Fin to suffer but he didn't take him down limb by limb did he? Fin had all that he could handle and then some against a damn Storm Trooper yet Kylo actually got hit by the light saber from Fin. Allowing some random to get a shot in against a Sith Lord was ridiculous. I didn't mind him getting shot by Chewy because his heart was heavy and his mind was numb after killing his father, but Fin getting a shot in? :help:

[SPOIL]Kylo shoud've had his way with Fin the way that Vader had his way with the random Rebels at the end of RO.[/SPOIL]

I thought the point was that Kylo Ren wasn't a badass?

He's young, power hungry, unstable and wreckless. He's not some polished Sith lord.

I mean we're expecting the same guy who slashes expensive machinery and equipment in anger when he gets pissed off to be prudent and level headed in a duel? He's immature as hell. It shouldn't be surprising that he'd toy with Finn even while injured.

The Rebels ship was present as well.

Also heard Captain Antilles paged. Wedge or Raymus?

Please for the love of god, do not argue about Kylo Ren. I still have PTSD over all the arguing from last year. DuckJet nailed all the points as usual.

Honestly your a bit too generous IMO with those ratings

For me I would award them (Out of 4 stars)

The Phantom Menace = * (Honestly its almost unwatchable that's how bad it is)
Attack of the Clones = * 1/2
Revenge of the Sith = ** 1/2
A New Hope = *** 1/2
Empire Strikes Back = ****
Return of the Jedi = **
The Force Awakens = *** 1/2

I wont see Rogue One until it comes out on DVD (Just don't go to theaters anymore)

I honestly think a lot of the people who don't like TFA and Rogue One wouldn't like any Star Wars movies at all if they hadn't grown up with them.

Personally, I don't know that I want to rank RO with the rest of the films. Eventually, I'm going to rank the Skywalker saga stuff separate from the standalones.

[spoil]By the way, my dad mentioned to me that Felicity Jones is the only one who has options for more movies in her contract. I guess we might get a pre-Rogue One story out of her at some point.[/spoil]

Not unlikeable but rather unrelatable because they stay so undeveloped or distant. Jynn is the only one with more background but even she doesn't become relatable until she sees the hologram of her father. A movie with a similar plotline, Saving Private Ryan, had characters that you felt more attached to than the ones in Rogue One. While Fin isn't quite so well developed, Rey is much better than any character in Rogue One.

[spoil]Could easily be in flashbacks in a sequel. Maybe a Wedge story. That would be the greatest for me as a big Wedge fan. That was my biggest disappointment from this movie.. That he didn't survive the this battle as well to go on his huge list of accomplishments.[/spoil]
