Tampa was a very good team (based on analytics) that has an abnormally low shooting percentage this year. Leafs were a very good team (based on analytics) but slightly worse than Tampa but had a high shooting percentage. I think Tampa's demise was smoke. Leafs pretty much in a must win situation but I suspect they'll get game 2 fairly easily.

Interestingly, Ottawa was a very midpack team from analytics perspective but were doomed by the leagues worst shooting percentage and poor goaltending. Shooting is a skill, but we should expect to see a reversion to to norms there for us. We need good goaltending next year though.

I love the absolute panic from Toronto fans. It's game one lol, we all know this can easily and quickly turn, then turn again, then again. It's still fun to watch though.

Next game Toronto wins, it'll be: oh shit man, tampa is done, they're out of gas!

yeah just what is needed in Ottawa, a GM that uses every loophole in the book to spend to the cap, and have that handcuff the team, and need to sign goaltenders to ATOs just to play a regular season game.

Dubas is persona non grata in Ottawa as far as I’m concerned, and is already at the top of the short list in Pittsburgh the second he becomes available.
Pitt would surely go after him since FSG creams themselves over analytics. I’d love him in Ottawa.

I haven't seen at him at all this season and this is entirely based on 1 playoff game, but give me Perry as the Watson replacement please.

Brady and Perry in the same playoffs, oh dear god.

As much as I would love to see the Leafs being eliminated, I still think they will come back and get a huge boost off of it. Do you know the feeling when something just goes your way against all odds and against all mathematical propabilities and you are basically just thinking: 'yeah, this just has to swing back to normal any moment', but it doesn't, and the more time passes the stronger this feeling gets? I felt about the Leafs this way just before the season started and even more so with the acquisitions they made.
And this was exactly my thought when watching the game. This is a massive do or die situation. It could be either one of the biggest franchise fails in modern hockey history or the start of something big.
I'm hoping for their failure, but we will see.

What Toronto has accomplished the last 6 years, by losing in the first round every time, is already one of the biggest franchise fails in modern hockey history. I think it might be a record.

When you say the start of something big what do you mean? Because winning the first round, for leaf fans, would be huge in and of itself.

It just just can’t get any better. It’s too funny at this point.
Oh man I can’t wait for a 4 game sweep.

Id rather have Dorion than Dubas. I want Dorion gone more than anything. Why dont people want someone that actually played and understands the game? Id like a former player that has his pulse on the league to be the GM. Someone that understands what it takes to win and has come from a winning organization. Maybe in his second stint with an organization so they know how they are supposed to be run.

Dubas sucks.

That being said its going to be really hard to win for Tampa if Hedman and Cernak are out.

I don't want either of them. Its picking between two turds for me that make mistakes on different ends. I'm just nervous that if Toronto doesn't extend Dubas and we let go of Dorion, Dubas might want to come here since he grew up a Sens fan.

First sentence made me laugh. I agree. I grew up a sens fan id like to be the GM of the team too haha. I want that nerd no where near this team. Took over an amazing team with tons of talent and has done nothing with it.

I'm personally hoping they lose the next game again. But honestly, a sweep would mean I don't have to drive into TO for any of my night shifts while the Leafs are playing. Which is a bonus for me!

I do think that Leafs win the next one though. They do have a good team, and if Tampa is down two D men, that's something they could take advantage of.

Dubas actually manages to fill his depth roster spots with good useful players though.

Dorion has never put a team together with good depth.
