He initiated the hit too far from the boards making it impossible for Point to protect himself, to me that's textbook boarding, that kind of play can end careers
That looked like two players coming together, trying to get position on each going into boards following the puck. Point had inside position and wanted to keep it. He even turned his foot to try to keep the puck in front him as they approached the boards. He then lost his footing at high speed.

I was cheering for Tampa but agreed with that one.

I hit the boards like that in rec hockey when a guy accidentally tripped me as we were racing to a puck (me defending) - not intentional but I had to have shoulder surgery. Point is lucky he was back a few shift later, his body absorbed that energy without serious damage to bones or ligaments presumably.

Really? Leafs looked like shit.
If you win a game like this where you are by far the worse team it is pretty much a proof that luck and the hockey gods are on your side. This was a huge blow to the Lightning. The Leafs can only be better than last game, are already up 2:1 and have two games at home in hand.

They have got the clutch players and O'Reilly was a fantastic add. Their third line could be the difference that wins them the cup.

O’Reilly was a great add.

I don’t think they have many clutch players at the moment. From what I have seen, none of the their top guys are clutch save for O’Reilly who won them that game. Matthews had a nice tip, but was basically just invisible.

Having said that, it really doesn’t matter how you win. I just don’t see a dominant team on the ice at all, and TB hasn’t looked great either, which shouldn’t be a surprise given how lame they have been for months.

As a side note I love how the broadcast kept talking about ‘the first time two 60 goal scorers have ever fought’ and I’m like, Matthews took a light beating and had a glove on the whole time, he absolutely didn’t fight, there was one guy fighting. Their stars lack heart, but have tremendous skill.

Still, anything can happen in the playoffs.

The leafs are not playing well. But you get the sense the Lightning know that every shift is a possible concussion. They’ll be the lightning they’ll circle the zone they’ll possess the puck. But every shift they lose a little something they get a little more timid. If Perry is what he used to be he could probably even up this series but he’s on the fourth line

Boston just scored a very similar goal to Point last night and it counted after review. Whistle simultaneous with the loose puck being shoved in. The whistle did not change anyone's reaction on the play.

Tampa was ripped off last night the game should not have got to OT and then Reilly scores in OT after being assessed a 5 minute penalty that was taken off the board completely adding insult to injury.

And Paul becomes a wing capable of playing anywhere in the line up. Paul on our 3rd line is better than Joseph. He's $300k more expensive than Joseph and better in every measurable way. He didn't take a discount in TB, he was paid market value for someone who can play throughout the line up, is solid defensively, but isn't scoring at a top 6 level.
TB are not happy with Paul, go read their game days, or Paul thread.

Anthony Duclair continuing his annual playoff tradition of being benched and/or healthy scratched. Panthers went with Zac Dalpe instead.

Dorion vindicated yet again.

Better to not make the playoffs than to make the playoffs and have to scratch someone. It’s what they always say.

Reactions: Game 7 Meltdown
No one can say Matt Tkachuk isn't fully engaged in these playoffs. Unfortunately he's doing it against the Bruins who are basically unstoppable.

What on earth are you talking about?

He has 99 points in 137 games for the Panthers since we let him go. That's a 59P/82GP pace on a 3M salary.

To add a replacement sniper after letting Duclair walk, Dorion traded the 7th OVR + 39th OVR picks for a 66P/82GP guy that costs 6.4M in cap, 9M in salary.

Bob didn't go in til they were down 3-0. Alex Lyon hasn't been good enough yet, we'll see if Bobrovsky can turn their fates around.

(Not to say I have much faith that he can.)

Bob was in goal the whole game bro.

Oh and, lol Oilers. I was right to doubt they could make it far these playoffs. Looks like LA has the clear upper hand with Fiala back in the lineup and with the better goaltender in net.
