No, Philadelphia does. They're going come into camp busted up, still mentally & physically weary from the Cup hangover coupled with a short summer that didn't give them enough time to both heal & train, and completely shit the bed. Probably have a ton of players on IR throughout the year, and miss the playoffs. One of Ottawa, Buffalo or Pittsburgh takes their spot.

However, it is top 10 protected, so Florida will give Philadelphia #11 probably.

However, the good news is if Florida's pick is top 10 next year then Calgary doesn't get their pick in 2025, Philadelphia does.

That would mean Montreal would get Calgary's pick in 2025 with only #1 overall protection. If it's #2+ we get that pick.

So for the 2nd consecutive year, it's actually in our interests for Florida to massively fail next year, and fall into bottom 10 like Washington did this year.

Then cheer for Calgary to be a lottery team in 2025, but not win #1 OA.
Lol... that was a lot for my little brain to process in the morning.. but thanks for the info. :D

Well.....congrats to Vegas, seems you don't need to thank for 5 years to build a team able to win the cup anymore and you also don't need to have an all-star goalie either. Welcome to 2023 where taxes and cool weather should get you the advantage!

Having said that......This was probably one of most boring Playoff season in a long time!
First round was fun, but after that.....too many series were not close, not enough game 7, not enough big storylines.

Now....let's the trades and the draft begins!!!!!
This should be a lot more fun!

They paid to get a 1D (UFA), 1 C and 1 W (through trades). It's a really different model than past cup winners (Col, TB, Pitt, Chi and even the Blues in some extent) who developed their elite players through drafting (except O'Reilly and Schenn for the Blues). They used all their blue chippers to get those pieces and it was risky and criticized until they won this year. If Eichel injures himself again or Stone still has back problems because of his surgeries, they could have miss out with a barren prospect pool afterwards.

Hope with the Dach move, we'll be able to have a GM who takes risks and has a plan to construct a contender which was a clear weakness of Bergevin. Taking a winger 1st overall, last year, was bold (I would have taken Cooley) and we'll see if it's gonna pay off in the next couples of years.

Excellent. Excellent. A reason to cheer for Florida to collapse next year.

There is no real advantage in trying to finish first in the league or in one’s division.

Expending and extending oneself, for what — home ice was particularly overrated in these playoffs’ early rounds.
This is why I keep pushing for a wildcard format like the NFL. Division winners can rest while the teams go at it in a 2 of 3. With 32 frickin' teams something new has to happen. Getting a rest could be beneficial right? :dunno:

Yes and no. Look at the Panthers who were flat after a 10 day rest. Bobrovski came back totally cold.

I think the point is to get more teams involved in the post season but the reasoning is sound. I currently HATE this playoff format maybe if we go back to 1v8 it would provide teams with more incentive for not dogging the regular seasons which many good teams do.

i'm so confused, who's pick do we have again?

Calgary has two 1st round picks in 2025 draft. Their own & Florida's from Tkachuk trade. If Calgary has both picks, we get the worst pick (from Monahan trade).

If Calgary only has their own pick, we get their pick with only #1 OA protection. In order for this scenario to happen:

1. Florida must finish bottom 10 next year as Washington did this year; Philadelphia has Florida's 1st round pick in 2024 from Giroux trade, but it is 10 top protected. If Florida's pick is in top 10 in 2024 then Philadelphia gets Florida's unprotected 2025 1st round pick instead.

2. Calgary then gets Florida's 2026 1st round pick, and not the pick in 2025, which activates the clause in Monahan trade that pertains to Calgary only having their own pick.

3. In that situation, Montreal gets Calgary's 1st round pick in 2025 with only 1st OA protection.

My "Florida as a team of destiny feel" post really aged well. LOL. I have to say Vegas really kicked their asses. Not only beat them at their own game but crushed them at it. Stone was immense in this series. I really dont remember him being this dominant in Ottawa. The only memory is Subban breaking his wrist with a slash in 2015. Its incredible to me how you can create a franchise and 5 years later be champions when established clubs with money and scouts etc fail so badly.

Vegas had a good foundation when they drafted and became competitive right away. MA Fleury was a good part of it. They had assets to deal to get good established (better) players (Patches, Stone, Eichel, Roy, Barbashev) . Seattle is following the same path and are already very competitive. Their AHL club might win the Calder Cup this year. Their working environement is helping too. Who would not want to play in Vegas or Seattle ? No media pressure really.

Well these were surely the most boring playoffs in recent memory. I'm usually glued to the screen for the finals, but this year, it was playing in the background while I did other stuff. Gotta have more. I was getting my kicks watching replays of Shohei Ohtani. Incredible, already a legend. The Goat according to many.

Just like pitts couldn’t afford a Malkin. Zzzz.
They will have to re-sign Bouchard this off-season, kid will eventually earn big money. They are stuck with Nurse and Campbell's contracts. It will be hard to move RHH as well. If Holland can manage to re-sign Draisaitl I will be schoked. Drai will look for a contract similar to MacKinnon, Matthews.

Haven't watched a single game of this joke.

Vegas and Florida

lol

who cares

Bring hockey back strictly where it belongs.

Reactions: the
Vegas has become a legit hockey city.

I heard on the radio that their practice facility also gets packed with fans during the season. That's Canada level hype.

It sucks that two of the big impact player acquisitions from Vegas were castaways from the Atlantic Division (Stone and Eichel). The Habs didn't have a shot at either, and if Eichel was being traded from the West we definitely would have been in on him extremely hard.
