Everyone here maybe. We’re not sitting on tens of millions of dollars already.

I think that’s kind of irrelevant personally. Especially if you frame it as Nashville offering a hell of a lot more in terms of a percentage. It’s not like the Bolts offered him $4m for 4 years and he took $4.25m for 4 years elsewhere.

Silly pro scouting by Nashville. Stamkos has always been a good player, but hardly a line driver himself. Went from Marty St.Louis to Kucherov and that’s okay. In fact, he’s always excelled as that type of player. But Stamkos chose this route, went for the money and bet on himself instead of being realistic

He scored 40 last year and is still pacing for 25 this year, he can still be useful given the right situation. There are guys that have played 10+ years in the NHL that have never scored 25.
Exactly, they also dont make 8m so they don't come with the same expectation, totally different conversation.

To whom much is given much is expected.

What benefit is there to not taking the contract?

Benefit for Stamkos you mean? No real benefit to not accepting Nashville's contract. His legacy won't be tarnished that much once he's retired. He'll still have his number retired in Tampa Bay and will always be remembered for his time as a bolt.

As a fan of the game I like to think he cares more about his legacy and winning with Tampa than chasing clout, but hey I'm sure the guy has expensive bills to pay and he's gotta capitalize on these contracts when he can.

Good i felt old when reading that, hasnt followed F1 since i was a kid, but for me hamilton feels
like a young lad, hes 40??!! :walrus:
Older GMs and owners are unaware and in denial about how much time has passed them by. It is part of the aging process.

Stamkos was cooked. But the GM got caught up with the name. Stamkos. Same thing happened in Formula 1. Lewis hamilton is a 40 year old boat anchor

Stamkos spent 16 years of his life in Tampa Bay. Basically his entire adult experience since being a #1 overall. Have you ever moved to a new city after living somewhere a long time? Do you immediately thrive in all personal facets? Maybe some people do but often it can take a while to adjust. Stamkos is a real talented player but has always been more a great triggerman rather than a guy that has the puck a lot.

His 60G year he had 37A playing with Lecavalier and St Louis IIRC. Like Huberdeau and Rantanen and I'm sure a thousand other players over the years he makes a great compliment to elite players, rather than being counted on to be the guy. 8 million AAV is not outrageous for that description and I expect he will have more hot streaks before his career is done.

Compairing a hockey legend like Stamkos to jobbers like Huberdeau and Rantanen... Jesus tap dancing Christ...

Stamkos was clearly the man during his 60 goal season. St Louis only assisted on 20 of his 60 goals that season.

Anyway looks like Stamkos might be going on his anual Spring Stampede as he has 8 points in his last 3 games with 19 games remaining

I’ve said it earlier in the thread but Stamkos had always been a really streaky player. That pointless streak may have been his worst ever but what a bounce back since. Still one of the top shooters in the game, he just needs someone feeding him.
