I’m disappointed the Blues didn’t get to their game. I wouldn’t mind losing if it was best on best. It just feels like the little things never got going. The passes were just a little off. The goaltending wasn’t able to make the big save. Maybe I should give Vancouver more credit, but the bubble version of the Blues reminds me a lot of the pre-Berube Blues.

I have to say though, I’m sitting in my den with a Stanley Cup framed montage with every player raising the Cup, my other hockey paraphernalia, and I’m just not feeling any sting in losing this time. Disappointed a bit. I’m really glad the NHL found a way to get us a postseason. It sounds petulant to complain about the “Covid Cup” to me. I’m grateful to have hockey.

It was a big challenge to each team to get ready to play in this environment. The Blues failed. It’s happened to a lot of defending champs.

Looking forward, I see lots of guys to root for:
Can Halak fill in for Boston?
Maroon with Tampa (and Shattenkirk)
Stastny and Reaves, can they get back there and finish the job with Vegas?
Can the Islanders and their great coach defy the odds? It would feel sweet to win a Cup IN Toronto, with Tavares on his couch in his Leaf pajamas.

Pietrangelo hasn't been as good this go around (Who has?), but he's still been one of our best players and IMO losing him immediately closes whatever Cup window one thinks we might have at the moment.

You offer him a blank check, hope he takes it, and cut whatever fat elsewhere that you must to make it work.
He has been the only steadying force on our D in this playoffs. Subtract him and our D looks pathetic.

Even if/when Parayko returns to form, there is no combo of him and Faulk that can cover the loss of Petro. And, we still haven’t covered the loss of JBo. That’s losing two top 3 defenders in one year.

Parayko, Thomas, ROR, and Perron
Those are the only guys we won’t get more value than what they bring to us for their contract. All of those guys are available for the right upgrade.
Schwartz and Schenn are two of the only players actually working this series.

Absolutely, down 3-1 in game 5 Markstrom made some big time saves, and now we’re here. At this point I’m just hoping we don’t get shutout in an elimination game. Roar bacon please?:help:

Pettersson and Hughes have also been very impressive. Hard to believe just how good they are sometimes given their age.

I just hate Roussel sooooo much:mad:
This is how a typical Blues playoff season goes. Crazy how dominate and in control the Blues were in game 5 until that second Vancouver goal.

Game 4 was as dominate of a game you will see and we saw that quite a few times in the playoffs last season. Then in just 5 minutes of game time, Vancouver somehow scored 4 goals and the series was forever changed from there

I don't like seeing these weak excuses of the covid bubble stuff. Other teams are in the same situation. The Blues simply didn't play well.

They didn't play well and teams are playing by the same standard, but it has also affected teams differently. Some teams came out not sluggish, some came out like a house of fire. It's definitely a weird situation. Which it still counts all the same, we're still going home. But it's obviously a very weird situation and layoff that did affect guys that are so used to routine, and stopped our momentum dead.

True, but this isn't a normal circumstance. The break in play is tantamount to an offseason. Imagine the rage from every team if chicago had gone on to win the covid cup this year.

I disagree, Blues would have beaten Phili and for sure Dallas, the Canucks are VERY young and really went to school on the St Louis system of hard work, goaltending was the difference in this series.
I guess we should agree to disagree, I still stand by what I said.

The only thing that upsets me is we finally won the cup. Not only that, but we were a top 3 team in the league less than two months from the playoffs to go for a repeat. The shutdown was just really unfortunate. This team excels at a grind, not a sprint.

As I've said I'm not going to hold this playoff performance against the team any longer than tomorrow with how everything is. Just sucks because I think we were poised for a deeper run (at least 2nd round or WCF) had the virus pause not come along.
