For the season? Hesee's been good to very good most nights. But he's had some stinkers, of which tonight was probably the worst, so people are reacting on emotion. We need more, but he hasn't been 'poor.' Keep in mind He's the anchor on a d with three rookies and the corpse of Jake Muzzin. He's still the only d to lead his team in ice time in every situation, he's just trying too hard to be mr. everything and paying for it. But again, don't get me wrong, we need more from him

People are misdirecting their anger. Kopitar is getting paid a ton and he can't even hold in to the puck along the boards anymore. There's a reason he's a negative player. He is hands down the biggest disappointment on this team. Just a terrible season and contract.

Well that's too bad. I don't expect the people who sign the checks are going to be happy about missing the playoffs again with that cap ceiling payroll. And with Kroenke luring the Clippers back across town, or trying to, there's even more pressure to fill seats. Does expansion uncertainty buy DL another year to prove he still has it?

Whatever happens, we're back to being entertained by front office BS instead of Dynasty on the ice talk, and that's not a good sign.

and what do you do about it? trade him??

you still gotta fill out the lineup card.

Fire management, rebuild, trade assets like Carter etc. Yes we're stuck with this overpaid guy but they won't compete for years now anyhow.

I dunno, I actually think if anything the amount of youngsters on this roster is a good sign, and we do have our picks. If we do turnover a gm/coach in the offseason and some guys turn their performances around, I could see a refreshed team on the ice next year, like the Bruins retool.

You start rebuilding, you might as well tear it the **** apart, including trading guys like Doughty...and in that case, we're done for probably a decade again, because the franchise would be lucky to land a C like Kopi or D like Doughty or G like Quick ever again.

Trading Carter or Doughty will bring in assets but won't rebuild immediately. It will take time to turn those assets into what was traded for them.

DL should ask Perimitar to do something for the team 'off the ice' , since he is not helping the team 'on the ice' .... to restructure his contract to help the team out. If he is not open to it, expose him to Vegas. He can go raise his family there. I would not let him play the half wall on the PP. If he is out there, he must be in front of the net, period.

And sign Aston-Reese.

If Kings miss playoffs, DL and DS are relieved of their positions.

Trading Doughty is a terrible idea. Trading Carter is not.

IMO, you start trading everyone around Doughty, he simply walks in a couple of years as a UFA to Toronto or whoever will throw money at him.

If you rebuild, you do it hard. Don't half ass it.

The only time to trade Doughty is if it becomes difficult to re-sign him. Much like what happened with Blake. Can't afford to lose a player of that caliber for nothing and let him walk as a UFA.

Can't do that. The CBA doesn't permit any renegotiations. They're stuck with Krapitar.

I don't think that (restructuring contracts) is an option.

And as fans we've sat thru much worse regimes than DL and DS. I would keep them both for 3 - 4 years more at least. With their track record (2 CUPS!!!) they've earned a few mulligans in my book.

Isn't this Kopitar's first bad season?

You could argue two years ago was 'bad' but I wouldn't. But some say it's a trend. I disagree entirely.

Does Doughty hang around if DL pawns off players like carts though?

Exactly my point. I'm not at all advocating the tear down, but on such a veteran team, you don't simply 'move Carter' and keep everyone else. It's scorched earth or bust. Carter is a bargain dollar 1-2C. If you trade him and hope to replace him at all, you're paying more money than you're paying him. You start removing players that keep us competitive, and Doughty goes to TO right as their Cup window is opening and they need a top-pairing RHD. You trade Quick, and we have ****all in the system. You trade Kopitar, and we're lucky to ever have a center like him again. You don't just remove one of these parts and keep on trucking; if you're going to trade one, burn it ALL down, because there isn't nearly enough promising youth currently in the system to simply start rebuilding around a few guys.
