SSM Greyhounds 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

I think we see Andrew step into the middle nexr year again.

Tegelaar will not be a starter, they need a starter. Miller will likely be gone.
Bold statements. A person with the team has indicated otherwise, but it depends on how the draft goes. We'll find out in a few days.

I should clarify that I wasn't criticizing either of those young players, particularly Andrew. Being asked to play a new position as a rookie is extraordinarily difficult and neither should have been put in that position.

I think both project much better as wingers going forward. There is space for Smith at LW, but we may need to play Andrew at C out of necessity. He had quite a growth spurt throughout the season and he's got to be close to 6'4 now.

I think they believe in the current goaltending duo from what I've heard (we rolled with Schenkel through similarly poor seasons), but I'm sure that there are a couple of 07 imports that would interest them at the right spot. Some of the top names available are Pyotr Andreyanov, Love Härenstam, and Måns Goos.
I took your point of them being slaughtered defensively as pretty high criticism hahah. But they definitely will be much more effective on the wing.

Schenkel was near the top of the league in save % in his 18 year old year before he got hurt near Christmas. Miller finished last in save % and GAA this year in the regular season as an 18 year old. Not the same imo.

I say we take an import goalie and centre with our picks imo.

Yes, I can see all 5 08 D coming to tryouts and us signing 3 of them.

We might only run with 2 x OA this year, if we bring in an import goalie. Otherwise we might use that OA spot on a goalie. I don't think Daley comes this year.
Or Daley ever, why would he? Straight shot to world junior team. Know someone that talked to Trevor Sr. on Saturday and his response was why the hell did they (Hounds) do that? Just another wasted good pick opportunity... do they ever even talk to these important early picks prior or just naively hope?

Daley could play his two years with the USNDP and be here for his 18 year old season if the team that drafts him wants him to. Maybe he doesn't have school plans and just wants to keep eligibility for the US national teams moving forward. He could still play world juniors if he is playing in the O.

very slim chance, wasted pick, again.

Could Andrew skate / less awkward before his growth spurt? did they watch him much with Shattuck? or did they pick him for his inflated points due to playing teams that shouldn't be AAA... (10-0 many of their games that year) Need to add size to this team, but they need to be able to skate well, battle, and play physical with their size, don't see that in him now or to come.

Once Fisch takes a stance on something - in this case that he felt Miller should be our starter this year - he will die on that hill. I think most fans have valid concerns about moving forward with Miller as our starter.

I can appreciate the organizations unwillingness to give up on him considering the astronomical cost to draft him, but in my opinion he has not shown the consistency needed to be an OHL caliber starter.

lol he was 16 this year. and near the end he was one of our most physical players IMO.
I love this pick, for the record. I think there is a great chance he comes. #remindmein2years
agreed.

It's kind of hard to say since the growth spurt happened during the season. I thought Andrew was very impressive early in the season when they had him on the wing. When we moved him to centre, he got worn down and had a lot of difficulty defensively, but the skill and skating ability were still evident.

I think there's a lot of success in his future, including being drafted to the NHL. He's one of my favourite young players on the team.

Better net front D required for a long time now for this team. Without that leaving goalies to fend on their own way too much so cannot judge

agree, is not a OHL center, mistake to try and make him play it, but lack of options made them attempt it, NHL lol, can't change skating to that level or else you have solved something no one else can, skating stride / fundamentals has to happen earlier or just doesn't, wish I was wrong.

he was only 16 and his rapid growth hurt his skating and also made him significantly less thick. his IQ is goood enough to play center and I am sure his whole summer focus will be skating.

Very happy to see the Hounds draft big both on defense and offense. At times this past playoff against Windsor it seemed we were boys playing against men in the Spitfire lineup.

Just maybe Raftis has realized that in the playoffs it is a different brand of hockey.

I believe he will turn into a very effective player for the Hounds! Ideally he should be on the wing! I think Raftis will fix their shortcomings! Getting Croskery to report would be a good start! Also a solid overage D to go with their other 2OA's! I also don't see Vader on the roster and McConnell-Barker a trade option! Need to also upgrade goaltending! Don't see an immediate starter within their prospects! With that said I believe Greyhound fans are in for an existing couple years!

meant exciting couple years!

Of all our silly flyer picks over the years, I'd say picking Daley Jr. made the most sense. I still have reservations about using high picks for players committed elsewhere, but we will see how this one pans out over the next few years.
