I feel like Boldy playing the point is at least equally as risky.
Exactly... very few forwards are good at playing the point, just like most Dmen aren't good on the cycle in the O zone. It's about reps, and knowing what to do.

Boldy is talented, but he is not suited to playing up there, nvm being the last line of defense on a short-handed rush against.

So it was Gus, not Hynes, who did the right thing.

Lots of talk about Buium……not enough of Brazeau being in, passing to other team, not getting back on 2nd ANA goal, and being a complete liability every second he is out there, all while dragging down Hartman. PLEASE get Vinnie back in for GM 1.

Hynes gets no credit. Dumb coach.

In fairness to Hynes, it shouldn't be his call to remove Gus in that situation. Yes, he's the head coach so normally it would be, and yes the Wild had locked up their playoff spot, but Gus had played all game and deserved to see the win played through. If Hynes has to make that decision, he's in a position where he either screws with Gus unnecessarily or doesn't give Fluery the sendoff. Either way he's in a position where people don't like his decision. It was also supererogatory, anyway.

No, that decision should have been Gus's and Gus's alone, and he did the honorable, classy thing. I'm really proud of him for his thoughtfulness.

That’s really the only scenario how this would work. Hynes just approving the gesture is all he should have done. It was perfect and a great show of respect from within the team.

I would guess so. Since he missed out on his start in Vancouver. Probably impromptu gesture. Crowd was ravenous as well after the tying goal and the PO berth being confirmed. Very fitting to start the party with „mr feel good“ getting one last hooray in net.

Am I missing something with the Gus/Fleury thing? Was it just so he would end his last regular season playing instead of sitting?
Yeah pretty much. One last win in the win column too.

It’s funny, Panther was talking about on a recent podcast how he liked when the islanders broadcast crew gave ovechkin all 3 stars of the game for the gr8 goal. I thought to myself, how long until panther does that. Turns out, not long lol.

Nice way to finish things up.
Clutch goal by Johansson, the Captain with the patented shovel and Johansson with the primary assist on the game winner.
How Swede it is!
