For anyone that didn't follow along, Angel made a call that was either correct or close enough to not really be worth arguing.

unlike his normal self, he was professional about it and Lynn was a complete dick.

I'm not arguing that Angel is good, I'm arguing that Lynn decided to be a dick (and that his comments don't help anyone)
I agree. I hate Angel as much as any baseball fan but Lynn was completely in the wrong here. Arguing with the ref is something you don't mind seeing in real games when it matters but it's not something you want to show to kids in the stand during camp. Just take a cup of STFU and get ready for the season. It's not like it was an awful call anyway.

I think two things can be true here: Lynn was being a dick about the call, and Hernandez is an objectively terrible ump who has earned every bit of the reputation he has (and was probably being a dick here, too).

Honestly why not let Varsho or IKF be back up... or at least attempt it.
They're both elite defenders at their regular position, so losing that value would be really tough. Neither should be more than an emergency backup.

Serven seems to be a strong defender behind the plate and is having a fantastic spring. Might as well give him a chance in the role until he proves he can't do it.

Kiermaier is the only starter in the Jays lineup today that didn't have an OPS of .900 or better coming in (.588).

For perspective, Vlad, Kiermaier, and Bo were the only .900 last year (with Whit at .894, Springer at .837 and Belt at .804).

Dude...google "worst ump in baseball". Every article will be about Angel. This is no mere hyperbole, quite literally every piece will lead with Hernandez. In addition to him being statistically the worst or amongst the very worst, you can find dozens of videos of him missing calls by a comically large margin, and I'm not talking strictly balls and strikes. He misses all kinds of calls, regardless of assignment, and is then eager to throw out anyone who challenges him.

To accuse the whole baseball world of being racist against him is so patently absurd that I can't believe that anyone would choose that hill to die on.
I'm pretty sure the issue with Angel Hernandez is the same issue hockey fans had with Kerry Fraser for years; it's not specifically his awful calls (as pointed out, he's not the worst, but he is below average), but rather what appears to be an ego that tells him the fans have paid good money to see HIM instead of the baseball players getting paid to play. A universally hated trait of refs/umps across sports, by both spectators and athletes, is the ref/ump who feels the need to make the game about themselves and do things specifically to put themselves in the spotlight.

Jesus have not watched spring training, turned it over 6-2 jays, then within ten minutes due to bad pitching from mayza and fluharty it's already 9-6 tigers.

So is Turner, the beauty of having a 39 and a 40 year old on the roster...what time is the daily siesta?

Turner’s career has been remarkably graceful for a guy that was replacement level into his late 20s. He’s still a great line drive hitter that can spray the ball to all parts of the field while also making a ton of contact. Plus over his career he’s been great at hitting with runners in scoring position, and the last few years he’s somehow been even better.

I think it's like with any other workplace; if you're quietly bad at your job you may get a pass, or if you're an arrogant diva but are good at your job you may get a pass...but the combo of being bad and also arrogant just doesn't fly...well, unless you're in a union like Hernandez.

Wildlings seem to age a little bit better, it must be the cold that keeps them preserved.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think Tiedemann is going to be a starter in the long run. He's never pitched 6 innings in a game his entire professional career and his stuff exceeds his command/control quite a bit. I think he'll ultimately be best deployed like Josh Hader as an elite bullpen weapon that dominates and puts up ridiculous strikeout numbers. I realize a #1/2 starter is much more valuable, but I think that's at least a reasonable fallback.

Are you illiterate?

I literally called him a terrible ump. He is.

Debating on whether he's the worst is even fair. What IS racist is that certain umps who are not white have their mistakes highlighted repeatedly to make them look worse by players and the media.

There's a difference between you and I talking about Angel because of an incident involving him and a player creating an incident with Angel to have a reason to insult him (instead of just pitching better).

Keep in mind that Angel basically let Lynn argue balls and strikes for nearly a full inning and threw him out for insulting him after calling a close pitch a strike.
How would I be illiterate for calling you out for your garbage hot take on people being racist or insinuating people are racist because they call out Hernandez for being bad at his job. This isn’t new information. Maybe Lynn was having a bad day and is also tired of Angel. Maybe he should have been ejected I didn’t watch it. But Angel is also well known for his quick trigger finger To throwing guys out games. Like someone else mentioned people felt exactly the same about Joe West who was white. Luckily he’s retired. But bringing racism into this is so unfounded and such a stretch it’s embarrassing. I’m gonna leave it alone after this but this is a huge problem with our society today. Have an opposing view and you’re either racist or a mysoginist.
