OT - NO POLITICS Spring has sprung

I've only barely watched any of the NHL playoffs this year (even highlights), but I just spent an hour and a half watching an entire game from the 1995 regular season on youtube.

I'm convinced that my entire conception of what I find cool or fun was fully set when I was 8 years old and I view everything else through the prism of that. Sports were just better back then, but I'm self aware enough to know that that's a subjective position.
lol you’re not wrong. Pull up an old episode of Scooby Doo or TMNT from the late 80s-early 90s. I bet it’s still entertaining.

I realize there's one or two humans in this forum that still have kids at home. ;) The rest of us have EMPTY NESTER STRENGTH!

My bathrooms are constantly covered in piss. Seat, walls, floors, shower door. Everything. There are clothes everywhere. Is it dirty? Is it clean? Why is a single sock in the bath tub? The dishwasher is empty only for the 5 minutes it takes to unload and reload it. The sink though, that stays empty for a couple hours, REJOICE! The washer, dryer, and the laundry basket are always full. Floors are never swept clean. Living rooms have pillows, blankets, couch cushions, various board games/pieces, and video game controllers strewn about everywhere. If you'd like to watch tv, join the search for the controller, you might find it by tomorrow. The work day starts an hour late, and ends 3 hours early due to school drop offs and pickups. Cabinets and fridge if filled Monday at 8pm, are barren by Wednesday afternoon. Lacrosse practice Monday nights. Karate Tuesday. Soccer AND lacrosse Wednesday. Karate Thursday. Soccer Friday. Soccer Saturday. Lacrosse Sunday.

As CM Punk so graciously put it, "I'm sorry if I'm a little f***ing snippy. I'm hurt. I'm old. I'm f***ing tired, and I work with f***ing children."

We have our house professionally cleaned 1x/month and it’s the best money spent in our budget
I had it done back in the day, when I was juggling newborn twins, a 2 year old, a dog, and two jobs. It was my Godmother doing the cleaning and we paid her, probably a bit too much actually. Worked out really well at the time though.

I've been trying to convince my father to see if he qualifies for anything, being of a certain age and being retired on disability. Brand new kitchen, tons of renovations to his apartment, in a 2 family that I'm getting killed on with taxes, and he has completely trashed the place. It's not quite TLC: Hoarders, but it's not pretty.

Yeah. I'm frugal and generally think I can mow the lawn myself if it saves money, but having a gardener come to clean up the yard every other month is absolutely worth it and improves my quality of life greatly.

This one appears to be somewhat 'normal' operational challenges. Landing on a carrier is incredibly hard, the story I read on this one is that the arresting cables that 'catch' the plane didn't catch (it happens) but the plane was slowed enough that they weren't able to take off again. When landing on a carrier the plane ramps up the throttle in case the cables don't catch so they can take off and circle again, thats normal operation.

I'm just happy to hear the pilots are both OK. Hopefully a cable didnt' snap and no one on deck got killed.

My wife talked me into professional cleaners every other week and I have to admit she was very right. It takes them barely an hour and the place is spotless. Plus it makes us pick up random stuff more often since we like to have it 'ready' to be cleaned.

HomeInstead and visiting angels were the services I used for my grandmother when I was in Mass.
the PACE program was a God-send. They are state wide.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to get my mom's steam cleaner so I can clean my carpets and wood/tile floors. After being here a year, they could use some sprucing up.

I solved the house cleaning thing by marrying a hot blonde stay at home mom and making absolutely ridiculous amounts of disposable income to make sure she never has to work a day in her life if she doesn’t want to

But I mean y’all do y’all ya heard

It’s so worth it. Even the 1x/month. We clean the rest of the month, but it’s always nice to know we have that deep clean reset coming. We can never get the stove and shower as spotless as she does.

I schedule it first thing on a Thursday (7am) for while I’m at the gym, and hit the grocery store after - she’s done by then. Coming home to a clean house and fully stocked groceries is a monthly highlight.

God, that sounds pathetic 😂

These are the type of things that finally made me realize I was an actual grown up.

12 years ago, a neurologist told me that my daughter might never crawl, that she may have difficulty speaking, or walking, or carrying things. She was high risk for seizures. Her body may grow quicker on one side than the other. They didn’t know what would happen, all they knew is that there was a very small spot in the left side of her brain that just never developed and it was going to most likely make her road ahead very difficult. .

Tomorrow night she is being inducted into the national junior honor society.

Suck it, Doc

First of all, I love that.

Secondly - and this might be controversial, not sure - but I feel like in today's day and age doctors might potentially cause unnecessary stress in expecting/new parents (I'm focused only on this context right now) - yours is a shining example that they really don't know for sure.

When my wife was still pregnant with my son, we were told he a) had an echogenic bowel that was a concern for a variety of things, b) he had a "sandal gap" which is a concern for a bunch of things, c) he had fluid around his heart which was a concern for a bunch of things, d) he had a valve issue, e) he had a spot on his brain that was a concern

None of it ended up manifesting. Like, at all.

I get being cautious, and I get preparing parents for potentially tough news - but I dunno, I think there is a conversation to be had around balance. We REALLY struggled throughout the pregnancy because of this.

We’ve long considered a cleaner, especially now that we have a 1 year old cyclone who leaves destruction in her wake. Might have to make room in the budget for it.
