I still think Chip Kelly is a possibility. Wouldn't shock me one bit. New coach can't have SC connections though. Gotta get some fresh blood.

To be fair, USC usually loses to Stanford anyway.

I was hoping last season was a turning point. That was a great game. When do the excuses end though?

Not really an excuse. I just expected it to be a game they lose. Even if they're a 3-loss team, isn't that still better than last season?

Ha, re-reading that it sounds like an attack on your post. I didn't intend it like that. More of an attack on SC starting the "they always play us hard" rhetoric which you know will be brought up as a built in reason. I also expected a loss after blowouts of two basically D2 teams.

I wouldn't consider three losses growth at all. I expected one to two losses and we're only three games in. I see at least three more losses - ND, Oregon, and UCLA games are usually a gong show. Gonna be an ugly season.

I think USC will beat one of Oregon or UCLA this time around.

First rankings shouldn't even come out until after week 4 or 5. But the TV people do it because more people will watch the games if there are numbers in front of each teams name.

I think the only reason it actually exists still is the on-side kick.

There was a documentary on HBO Real Sports about a high school coach who always chooses to onside kick and almost never punts.

Why do you even need to have a kicker and a punter? Why can't one player just do both? Extra point is a waste of time. Either a move it to the 40-yard line or just eliminate it and make touchdowns worth 7 points.

Well, you have to admit in the case of Ole Miss vs Alabama and BYU vs UCLA, just to give a couple of examples, the rankings were good indicators of great games.

Of course one player could do both, but I kind of like having two special teams guys, in case one of them gets injured mid game.

It's a union sport. So if there's a job, there's a player for it even if all that player is doing is punting. And the extra point has been missed more times already this season than all of last season and it's only 2 weeks into the season. Moving the extra point kick to the 35yd line has had an impact.

I don't think it's increased 2pt conversion attempts, though.

Stanford moves up to #21. I guess they're not as bad as some of you guys have said.

They were incredibly bad in their first game against Northwestern. Stanford can't play from behind. Once they get ahead and put 4 offensive tackles in the game (two playing tight end), then they are a very tough ball control offense.
