Post-Game Talk: Spoilers

single or double drop pass is the best way to get entries on the power play. NYR just don’t have any good transition skaters out there other than Panarin. Laf would help them a lot there and I’m not really sure what aspect of hockey you would see a drop off in if you swapped him with Kreider

Retrieving pucks and screening is about the only thing he's doing at this point.

They aren't aren't even trying to feature Kreider on the PP. Shots aren't getting close for deflections. Shots from far out on the wings are off target more often than not. And when there are rebounds they aren't right there for CK to slam home. And if they are then he's usually collapsed on where he can't get his stick to the puck clean. PP1 is just a mess. He needs to be on PP2 where those guys actually shoot.

Should’ve gotten at least a point out of that game.

Well, I had hope for about 23 hours. Now we’ve played 2 games more than all the teams around us even the islanders are only 4 points back with 2 games in hand. Montreal 1 point back with 2 games in hand, CBJ 2 points back with 2 games in hand, Detroit 2 points back with a game in hand.

It’s too tight to not be getting points.
It will be this tight till the end. Ottawa was the only team that was able to pull away and seemed to claim 1WC spot.

I'll give you Panarin. He's that good (or at least he was) and I agree with you and others in regard to the reasons you want to move on from him.

Even with Panarin in final form, it's not enough. JT Miller would be like 20th best center to win the Stanley Cup since the lockout.

They need more.

And look, I agree, if they played like this all year instead of farting around (and icing Lindgren and Trouba), they would make the playoffs, but we're talking about winning the Cup.

I don't think they're in that bad of a spot, in a sense. They're a lot more competitive now that they're not icing one of the worst regular defensemen in the NHL, which a lot of folks said would happen, but they still don't have the high-end guys, and this game was the perfect example. Bupkis on three powerplays. Top six invisible except for Cuylle. JT barfing the puck all over the place. Sam Carrick looking like our most talented guy multiple times this year.

They actually played well and it still wasn't enough.

Get rid of Panarin, I agree, but they need a player replacing him who is just as good as Panarin on his game was, and probably another guy in that range.

The shit they need is the hardest stuff to get.
It’s nice to want a younger roster via replacing Panarin and Kreider with x and y. But these x and y better be able to bring 70 regular season goals between them to start.

PP2 can’t even get the puck into the Ozone, never mind shoot. Of course they only get 30 seconds most of the time. You are right about the players ignoring him on the PP, but I don’t blame them. If a rebound or pass comes his way, there is a delayed reaction, and he misses it or flubs it. He acts like he is on some sort of pain killers and he’s in a fog, or somehow in a year he’s totally washed up. He’s continuously taking short shifts, won’t take face offs, and rarely goes into the corners. Something is definitely wrong. Since there really is no one to take his place, I would make one last ditch effort and put him with Mika and Rempe. Rempe can do the dirty work and go to the net, and Mika and Kreider have enough familiarity with each other where they may at least get a goal every couple of games. Put J.T, Bread and Cuylle together, and Tro, Laf and Berard or Broz. What have we got to lose?

Tired team spends half the first period killing fake penalties. Not enough left in the tank, some bad bounces, and finally, out-goalied for the loss. Microcosm of the season, starting out in a deep hole and can’t quite dig themselves out.
Yeah with four healthy scratches, you’d think they would put some fresh bodies in for a back to back or play the bottom six more than 7 minutes. It’s partially on the coaching that they’re so gassed.

Why 70 goals? Looks like maybe 55 this year… maybe.
