I'm a little confused by the punted picks with not having drafted a so called tough sign. I guess we'll see how it all plays out. I don't see our top picks getting even slot. Just a little confused about the savings.

I expect Reid-Foley will want more than his slot value considering he's a first round type talent so some of it should go there. But we might be able to go after a guy that was ranked top 100 and dropped out of the top 10 round completely tomorrow, we'll see.

What's the image at the top of the page; I know the ones highlighted in blue are Jays picks, but what about the other players that aren't greyed out?

Don't forget Rzepczynski.

guys who hadn't been drafted yet.

Sean Reid-Foley (#49) will get above slot. Punting the picks help save money to target fallers too. They have rounds 11-40 to figure out who they can manage into the pool. If SRF suddenly does not want to sign then they need to pounce on a faller like how the Jays did with Brentz and Tellez last year. AA is smart when it comes to punting picks, actually he pretty much designed it himself and then the other GMs decided to follow suit.

Let's say they select Cobi Johnson in the 11th round. They have $100,000 to spend, and then whatever was saved. He's probably around $750,000 so the Jays would have to allocate the extra amount saved from the punted picks to him.

I never understood why the As traded for Johnson. If there was ever a singular move that completely and radically violated everything that an organization stood for, it was the A's giving up assets for an expensive closer.

I think having a first baseman that converted into a pitcher and took over that closer role completely counteracts that non-moneyball acquisition.

I love how Hoff, Reid-Foley and Pentecost all seem to be ecstatic about being drafted by us

Wow.

So we have 14 games on Tampa, 10 on Boston, and 6.5 on the O's (and 6 on Yankees). Way to go bluebirds :thumbu:

For some reason I thought that money could only be used in the first 10 rounds of drafted players

I am late to post this but why was that missed Bautista catch, which was interfered by a fan reversed to an out.

I guess its the rule? But strange our fan interfered and we reaped the benefits.

Interesting decision as thought to myself no way they will call it an out.

I thought the same thing as it was unfolding.

But I figured: 1. It was pretty much without reasonable doubt Bautista would have caught that; and 2. Let's say hypothetically that was a Cardinals fan causing the interference -- it'd be a bad precedent to set allowing fans reaching over into the field of play and interfering with the opposing team.

Just imagine if the call wasn't made, the batter got on the next pitch and the next batter tied the game with a home run. Yikes.

It was called an out because the fan was "on the field" and stopped Bautista from making what was a sure out.

Now if Bautista leaned over the wall, then it would have stayed a foul ball, but since the fan reached over the wall and pretty much pushed Jose's arm out of the way of the ball, it's an auto out

I'm impressed with their ability to go on these long winning streaks
The one last yr set the table kind of proving they could do it
Now they feel compelled to match it

It's making the difference

Yah now that I think about it more I understand. I am surprised that little punk wasn't removed from the game , even though game was pretty much over.

That is the rule correct? interfere with the game and your removed?

Have a question to the advanced stats guru's.

Why are singles included in the calculation of slug %? What is a better measure of extra base hits + home runs etc. is it ISO?
