Probably realized he would get removed by an incoming GM.

I think anyone that resigns should be welcome news for Shanahan and company. They need to get these individuals out of the organization that can't see past their relationship with Dubas.

This includes the players too.

I loved what he brought to the team in his last few years but…..

What did he do? Like wasn’t he just at gm fantasy camp

Spezza is an idiot. This guy could have continued to be groomed to be GM of the Leafs one day.
A recently retired hockey player with $100-million in the bank doesn't need to be groomed for anything.

He came here to play for free -- or as close to free as was allowed by the CBA -- and he's only here because he wants to be here.

It seems he doesn't want to be here anymore.

Life will be fine.

That might happen.

Laurence Gilman? Brandon Pridham? Auston Matthews? Mitch Marner? William Nylander? Mark Giordano? How far would the discontent run?

Would Spezza have had a chat with anyone before stepping down?

What are you talking about. Its been public knowledge forever Spezza wanted to get into management post playing career. To suggest he doesn't need a mentor to learn on the job is pretty dumb.
