I guess, but if they really want to get cap space i’m sure they would rather just ship out a bad contract along with their 2nd or something rather then trade away one of their top prospects.
Normally, thatd be the easy route to take But I think they only have one pick in the first four rounds in the next two drafts, so thats why I thought it an interesting idea

But yeah the odds theyd let go of Knight are slim, contenders or not

Just wondering what the Panthers plan is. They don't have a first rounder in the next three drafts. I think they have less than 200k in cap space. Knight's last ELC year is next season. Bobrovsky is making 10 mil for another 4 years. What if they do split next season and Knight is awesome? Are they going to sign him to a big extension and blow up their cap with two goalies?

From a Devils perspective, Luke Hughes, Dawson Mercer, Nico Hischier... are going nowhere. I'm not saying they are worth more or less than Knight... they are just integral to the future of this club.

The Devils could easily give up this year's first which will most likely be top 5-7 AND a prospect like Holtz. If that isn't enough, I think Knight might be too expensive for what the Devils are willing to give.

A top-7 pick and Holtz is far far too much

Holtz is ppg in the AHL at 20 and that 1st could be star potential talent

One or the other is fine, and itd be the 1st over Holtz every time (we need Holtz style player very badly, hence we drafted him not BPA). A top-7 pick I dont want to be adding too much to, but Id listen for sure

Though unlikely, I figured why not gauge his value if there ever was serious interest from Tom Fitzgerald in New Jersey. Edit: Im also making this thread under the premise that Florida cant afford a 10m backup in the playoffs and run with Bobrovsky in his elite form for the duration of his contract.

Ill do my best to list what I think would be our most appealing assets to Florida, and let people pick and put together a better proposal than Id likely come up with;

- Ryan Graves (50% retention for a 1.58 caphit)
- Damon Severson ([50% retention for a 2.08 caphit] if we dont re-sign him)
- Tomas Tatar (50% retention for a 2.25 caphit)
- NJ 2023 1st rounder (top-10 protection)
- NJ 2024 1st rounder (unprotected)
- any other NJ 2022/2023 picks
- Could also eat a 1/2year deal for cap space for Florida, such as Hornqvist at 5.3 and/or Gudas at 2.1

So is there room for a deal to be made here for Florida involving Knight to NJ? I know its not a big name player coming back like Im sure Florida fans would like, but NJ can certainly help them in the department of remaining a contender. Whether that be through cap space they gain or a rental or draft capital to flip.

NJ 2023 1st (unprotected) + Mercer for Knight, Florida's 2nd in 2023 and Nause

I checked his statistics and analyses. I retract my statement on Hischier not proving anything. However, he is not a superstar like Matthews or Josi.
Do you think that is the value of Knight? Matthews or Josi? I don’t think it’s anywhere near that level

I think The Devils would trade Mercer for Knight and then replace him with Alexander Holtz....in any case they need a decent goalie if they think they are going to make the playoffs next year.
They would probably trade Holtz before they traded Mercer....Honestly I do not see either team trading these players....The Devils have Daws maybe he's the answer in the future they say Halek has potential....Blackwood imo if healthy and he gets forced to compete with a younger goalie for the job can be the answer but he needs to be pushed.....

I think they should wait for a few years to see how these guys improve.

These types of goalie prospects almost never move. Except for guys like Shesterkin or Sorokin who spend several years marinating in the KHL, there's very little certainty with young goalies. Most teams won't bet the farm on them. At the same time, there's basically no reason for Florida to accept a package like that.

We’ll figure it out when we get there? I mean, I appreciate everyone’s “concern,” but Zito has taken all this into account with his additions and subtractions this season.

Knight is a superb goalie prospect, which is well advanced. If he already is starter quality NHL tender next season and can carry a team to the POs, isn't known yet.

A Blackwood/Bernier duo most likely won't hold up. If next season shouldn't be another building season, the Devils need a goalie with the capability to start around 40 games. If they prefer a relative young starter or a veteran will will largely depend on their plans with Blackwood. Knight would make an extension real difficult, if he returns to form.

In future drafts the Devils have to look hard at goalie prospects in early rounds. Aside from RHD this is organisationaly the weakest position and starter caliber players become rarely available.

A 20 year old rookie having a superb season plus an unprotected 1st? For a goalie prospect that hasn’t proven anything more than Nico Daws has? Goalies are way too hard to project to make a move like this.

Spencer Knight is a great looking prospect but I'm not ready to pay the price that is being asked here. If we were talking about a goalie that had somewhat of a track record, I'd get why some would want multiple 1st (or assets that would equal multiple 1st's) but that's not the case at all.

If that is the asking price, we should just keep our assets and look for an above average goaltender. We don't need to land a top #5 goalie with how our team is looking to be shaped in the next couple of years from now.

This team is being shaped as an Offensive juggernaut so an above average goalie is needed to balance that kind of player don't have that now

Its just a conversation, Im not exactly putting in a request to the Panthers
It's not a conversation though. It's Devils fans floating proposals that don't work at all for the Panthers. Then when told why it doesn't work, you do it again anyway.

Spencer Knight was not available for Chychrun, there's 0.0% chance he's available for quantity from the Devils.

That's perfect because NJ should concentrate on adding players that are proven if they're going to be giving up several key assets. Knight is a great prospect but why risk moving the equivalent of what seems to be 3X1st round picks for an unknown when you can get a proven commidity for half that price.

I'm probably the only one on our board but I still have faith in Blackwood to be the goalie we need moving forward. Making a knee jerk move where we'd have to pay a hefty price to get an unproven kid, would be wayyyyyy too big of a gamble for a team that can do really well by keeping Blackwood and possibly using those assets to patch more important holes.

Goaltending IS our most important hole right now and that's obvious.

Nobody is saying otherwise... but I'm not trading a 1st overall pick for an unproven 20 year old goalie.

That would be the worst possible outcome for us moving forward. We have a solid option between the pipes but he's been injured for months now. That shouldn't mean we should give away one of our most valuable assets for a player that won't move the needle for us because as high as people are on Spencer Knight, he's no lock to be worth the package that's been talked about.

The Panthers passed on Chychrun, who's a proven legit #1LHD on a super team friendly deal, so I don't see them bitting on a pick and other assets when they passed up on a sure thing, in a window that is "win now" for them.
