They have so many pieces they could offer but yeah I think it starts with Helenius
BUF is harder to gauge return…Helenius is great, but he’s not proven like Lundell, so what’s his value by comparison.
My list of realistic assets BUF has that I’d want are…
Helenius
#20
Jack Quinn
Payton Krebs
UPL
Mrtka

So what’s our return from that list…

Must be nice to be Vegas or Florida where you can trade away all your draft picks and it doesn't matter because the whole league wants to play for you.

The NHL is becoming a top 10 team league with the other 22 teams just being a feeder to them.
Who needs to wait 2-4 years for draft picks to develop when you can get a NHL ready player right away and have no problem signing FAs.

This whole Ottawa thing is a canada thing with no end in site unfortunately, and to make it worse I don't think the players give a shit, in fact I think they favor the big city lights of America, all you have to do is look at how many canadian players stay in the states after retirement compared to how many Americans stay here it's a staggering number.

I agree, it's tougher to determine, obviously we would want more than just Helenius as he is no Lundell level talent yet, not even sure we would want him as the main piece, maybe Byram if we can extend him would be the main piece along with Helenius and a goalie.

No..it starts with Helenius…not Byram…C is our top priority
Personally I have zero interest in Byram at all
I’d start with Helenius + UPL then add from there

I would add Kulich

Im hoping for Helenius, 20, UPL and Mrtka

LAK hasn't been talked about much, but they're ready to make a deal and seem to be in win-now mode. I wonder if a Byfield deal could just pop up out of nowhere.

I know we're talking in big "ifs" here, but if Kulich is heading towards 100% health, this could be plausible.

The other "if" is the whole nationality thing. If the Sabres want UPL to waive in a deal with Wpg because they'd need to clear his cap hit and term to bring in Helle (and circle back on Tuch), sending him with a compatriot might help bring it all together. That sounds easier than reality and over simplifies the notion of Finns sticking together.

Not sure TNSE would allow Chevy to weaponize cap space, but Buffalo also has the Skinner contract buried and it's a sizeable hit for this year. Maybe drag another asset out of Buffalo to take that on.

Again, "if". And it all start with "if" Helle would agree to go to Buffalo.

Yes we need a 2C first and foremost but Chevy did say via Dregs that he also wants a top 4 D, Byram would be the main piece if he was included as he is far more established NHL'er than Helenius who got sent back to the minors last season for inconsistent play.

The comments are a bit strange…. do we want to replace Samberg?

Jomo-Salo
Samberg-Pionk

Didn’t the Jets JUST commit to Pionk long term and promote Salo to the NHL? AND we will probably draft a top 4D in this draft?

Just seems like a weird ask… like a desperation move because Salo is out or maybe Samberg is unhappy?

Biggest question is would Helenius be 2C ready right away?

I’d be tempted to do Perfetti+Barron for Wright so we have a 2C now, and let Helenius ease in..plus it makes us set for Scheifs eventual decline

But many will say if we are trading for Wright do we really need a C in return for Helle…I say yes as we have no guaranteed top 6 Cs in our system

Wright doesn’t seem ready to be a 2C…..

We are basically trading Perfetti and Barron for Barron - so why not just play Barron at 2C

The 4C ask was even stranger considering we have multiple decent options already (Barron, Zhilkin)

And yeah maybe they are worried about Sammy and Salo, who knows. I wouldn't say no to Byram though if he wanted to extend with us, he can also play the right side quite well so gives us many options.

I don’t see Barron as 2C…but Wright likely will be
It’s more a Perfetti for Wright with Barron thrown in to offset positional tax and to fill SEA 3C
