One way or another.

Personally, I'm very disappointed by all this talk of getting now players. I don't see how we can get a GOOD 2C and a GOOD goalie. We can only try not to be very much worse than we are now. Which is already not good enough.

Maybe something like the Buffalo proposals that have been floated here will walk the line between competing now and retooling. If it can be put together and Helle will waive.
I agree with you - but I'd be shocked if Chevy goes with the futures route.

He knows that if they lose Helle, the only hope they have for a PO spot is to add a 2C and a winger on that same line - plus a goaltender.
Then hope that our blueline can hang in without a top tier goaltender - and the team can play a solid defensive system - consistently.
They will also need Lowry, Nino, Names to bounce back (assuming they are around) - and an AHL'er or two that will be impactful.
They also need the core to be happy and not wanting out after losing their bread and butter net minder - and if they stick around, how will they handle losing?

That all brings me back to "I agree with you"

I hope Chevy figures out that he needs to look long term if he loses Helle.
What are we going to look like in a couple of years even if he gets a return that might allow us to squeak into the PO's?
Some like to call that the "win now" approach - lol
And from there we can look down the road at a couple more middle 1st rounders (assuming he doesn't trade them when he has to patch the next hole).

Personally, as a fan, I'd like to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Right now, I don't - we are not "win now" and the future isn't looking that bright either.
The tougher road for any GM (or org) is always the long road - these guys do not like to place their bets on futures when there is even the slightest glimmer of hope.

Chipman already has Scheif’s statue waiting in his basement… TNSE is about to make some bad decisions to ‘win now'

Like we just retired our first franchise number for a guy who had a cup of coffee here… the Chipman fanboy era is in full force.

Meh, in fairness his team, his investment, his business……..while I don’t always agree with their decisions I’m not in a place to tell him how to spend his money.

What about a trade with the Devils? I'm going to try and attempt this haha

Actually I would say 9th OA is about the third best return for a goalie, albeit it’s the highest pick I think. Roy trade in 1995 was much better, Luongo trade also much better. Look up those returns at the time, both returns would be viewed much better then a magic bean in a weak draft.

Again I would gladly take the 9th OA in a package, but the 9th OA alone in a weak draft is pretty meh return for arguably the best goalie in the world in his prime coming off a gold medal

Of the guys Roy was traded for only Rucinsky was worth much of anything and actually stayed with the Habs for awhile. Thibault was meh. Especially when you include Keane into the mix.

The Luongo trade was really just Luo for Bertuzzi the rest was just filler.
