He shouldn’t be. 3rd in xGF%, 29th in PDO. His team has played well. They’ve just been unlucky.

That job is a grenade. Expectations outweigh the talent. No prospect pool to call on or leverage for win-now pieces.

Not coaching, it’s the team. They need weapons on offense and retool the bottom 6.

Losing duclair was a huge blow. They need goal scorers around Barzal and Horvat.

Islanders are doing bad. But is that the players or the coach?
Players. Defense isn't that bad, goaltending is great, but scoring is atrocious. That was the expected flaw with the team and here we are. Doesn't help that their one addition that was meant to help with this (Duclair) got hurt.

I didn't know the Jack Adams was a junior league trophy.

Amazing how you consider winning Memorial cup twice as having no value at all. How many have you got?
Jack Adams is a gimmicky trophy, I mean Roy's win is sandwiched between Paul MacLean and Bob Hartley who struggled to get another job in the NHL after their trophy-winning stints.

Winning the Memorial cup has value, I never said it doesn't. It puts you on the map. Then, if given a chance, you need to prove yourself at the NHL level which is entirely different than coaching a bunch of kids for a big market team. And for the 2nd time it's fairly obvious Roy is just not a good coach.

Coaches win lower-tier trophies - CHL, NCAA, AHL - every year. It doesn't mean all of them are great coaches and even some of the great ones aren't suited for the NHL.

The roster is locked in (and older) and the prospect pool is limited. You can change the coach (if it gets to that point), but they will be faced the same situation.

I'm not even a big Roy fan as a coach, but your arguments for trying to portrait him as a bad coach are pretty empty. "It’s fairly obvious that he's not a good coach" is not an argument. And it’s not obvious to me at all.

From all accounts, the Quebec Remparts players loved playing for him. I didn’t hear a criticism from Islanders players. And he's got the hardware and honors, which are a much more "obvious" proof that he can make teams win.

I don't understand why do you keep dragging QMJHL kids into this. Are they supposed to say they hated playing for one of the biggest NHL legends? The implication that you would have heard Isles players complain about their current coach after not even a full year of him in charge is laughable altogether.

During his time with the Avs he lost playoff series as a #1 seed, his young core started struggling and it was all downhill after the first season. None of their young players - Duchene, MacK, Landeskog - really broke out under him, O'Reilly forced himself out of the team, etc.

With Isles, of course he has only been there a very short time and the record shows even "short shelf time" coaches manage to make their teams work for awhile. Roy, however, seems to be struggling already, of course not aided by the roster construction. Once again his top player - Horvat, Barzal, Lee - are struggling badly.

So how about we start talking about what he has achieved in the NHL rather than the stuff in juniors, huh?
