While I like Joker, and it was mistake to trade him but I doubt Hawks would have interest in 25 yr old defender (Turns 26 in offseason) who reaches UFA this summer

Will require extension and sizeable $ to keep him around and its pretty likely Joker tests UFA (As a young RHD he would be foolish not too) rather than sign extension with any team that trades for him

The only RD that are likely to be available imo are Andersson who Calgary may re-sign, Savard, Ceci, Jokiharju and maybe Borgen again so could see Murphy @50 returning a 1st just based off of that.

Hall @50 for a 2nd or 3rd. I feel like they'll get late 4th/5th/6ths for Maroon, Smith, Martinez. Wonder if they re-sign Donato if the return is just a 2nd/3rd

look at what Toffoli brought back last year in a depressed market. Hall is worth a little less than that; so — maybe a 2nd on his own, if retained?

While I agree with you in principle Hall doesn't have the grit/leadership/winner/center factor that it usually takes. I think he becomes the latest in a long line of scoring middle 6 wingers that get a 2nd.
 
Good bet Alec Martinez ends up on a contender, and Murphy is always intriguing. He just always seems to survive in Chicago.

Fair enough, that makes sense, I kinda forgot he was going to be UFA already, thought of him as a future RFA.
Anyway, Murphy without retention to Sabres. What would be a reasonable proposal?

Cause a turning a 3rd into a 2nd is better than f*** all?

Ultimately, Hall will get moved. And the Hawks would be dumb not to get some value over nothing. Whatever that value will be depends on Hall's performance. No way is that performance near a 1st right now btw.

Henrique is a Center. Much higher value than Wingers. The comparison makes no sense.

Did you even read what you wrote before you posted it?
Do you really think Hall at 50% retained is only worth moving up from pick 65 to pick 55-64?
I’m sure to the uneducated mind using terms like “turning a 3rd into a 2nd” appears valuable but the educated among us realizes you are referencing a maximum 8 to 10 slot gain and possibly as little as 1 slot.

To use your term … that is f*** all.

The player himself holds value.
The retention amount holds value.
The retention slot itself holds value.
You may be new but a team giving all 3 is getting more than the tiny bump you propose, which is not very high in the draft.

If you proposed Chicago moving pick 33 with Hall for pick 23 them maybe you have something workable but again ANYONE who follows the game knows that because the deeper into a draft you get the greater variation there is within each team’s prospect evaluation. Moving a few slots that far into the draft has little/no value. … or as you put it, f*** ALL.

Something is better than nothing. And nothing is what you are looking at with pending UFA.

I’m NOT saying Halls value is a 2nd to 3rd swap though. Which you’ve focused on in your reply.

Like I said in my post, his performance will determine what he gets. Maybe that’s a 2nd all by itself. Maybe it’s as low a 5th round pick. It will depend on how Hall plays out this season, and WHATEVER that value ends up being, you take that over NOTHING.
 
I’d like Murphy on the Bruins, especially at 50%. Maybe would allow us to ship on Carlo in a separate deal for a young forward

Pedigree means something to NHL GMs when they are trading for veteran players at the TDL, Hall doesn't have the stats currently to get him a 1st and nor has he gone deep enough in the playoffs to garner playoff pedigree.
 
Murphy to Buffalo for a Jokijarhu and a second round pick that becomes a fourth if he re signs before the draft.
