I honestly got lucky and it only took three days of trying.

Followed a couple Twitter pages that send out PS5 stock alerts. I could have gotten one on day one from Costco but didn't want the bundle. Struck out on Amazon day two (had in cart, couldn't check out), got one from Walmart day three.

i got a PS5 from that Twitter account a few days ago. Once again thank you for that eitherwise I would still be waiting for a PS5 LOL

Returnal and Demon Souls are both 29% off. Might be their best price yet? Both $63 dollars Canadian

Bluepoint and Housemarque both reportedly bought by Sony.
Housemarque is official. Bluepoint is very likely since that deleted Sony Japan studio tweet likely didn't come out of thin air, and it was rumored Returnal and Demon Souls Remake were the "last test" for both studios. Would continue's Sony's long-held track record of buying studios they have long-term second party links to.

I'll gladly pay the upgrade fee for PS5. While it wasn't a hard game to platinum, it is one of the few I took the time to do it on.

Sony also bought some Dutch studio I've never heard of today. It sounds like they will be a support studio and focus on PC Ports.

Yeah, I got the plat as well and would happily spend that much time in the world again.

There should be no fee to upgrade, but since it comes with DLC that's another conversation. I'm assuming it's sizeable content since they're calling it a full expansion.

I haven't played Ghost of Tsushima yet. Didn't want to play it on my launch PS4 that was ready for the scrap bin. I got my PS5 last week...should I play the PS4 version on the 5 or just wait for this expansion and play the entire game then for the first time?

I believe they already have upgraded visuals for the PS5, so I would say it's worth it.

Depends on if you got anything to keep you busy for a few months till it's out. Unless you can find the PS4 disc super cheap, then buy the DLC when it comes out, it's already been "upgraded" for PS5

I was worried Sony was gonna pull a [recent] Sony, but then I saw this on the PSBlog:

  • You can also upgrade directly (from original Ghost of Tsushima PS4) to Director’s Cut on PS5 for $29.99 USD
This is them pulling a sony 100%. Ive got to say my jimmies are slightly rustled on this. Theres a separate fee for the directors cut, and upgrading to the PS5 game? I mean sony can do what they want and maybe this is me being entitled, but I haven't seen Microsoft add any fees to getting Xbox Series X versions of games. Athough Activision may have done it on Xbox with some of the CoD games I need to double check that.

In fact come to think the PS5 version of FF7 Remake was completely free and they made tons of changes on that, the cutscenes felt genuinely next gen.

Hey maybe I'm entitled, still, the PS4 version is outstanding and the load times are insanely fast too even on last gen.

It's coming with a story DLC. And, it probably accounts for the typical $10 price increase between a brand new PS4 game and a brand new PS5 game. This is more than just patching it (they already unlocked it to 60fps/4k with a free patch, just like Days Gone, Last of Us Part 2, and God of War). It's likely built-in, due to the fact, they don't want people with the PS5 just buying the PS4 directors cut at $79.99 CAD and then getting the free upgrade. It sucks, but Sony would either need to back down from their pricing for PS5 games or raise the PS4 one (which will lead to outrage on that side).

Activision did it on Tony Hawk, at least for PS5.

Sony and Microsoft have dramatically different game plans on how they plan to maximize revenue this generation. Sony still wants you to buy the games, Microsoft wants you on Gamepass, and hope you like the in-house studio games enough to buy DLCs. I will give credit to Microsoft though, the recent Doom Eternal upgrade was free for PS5. But, if you want one of the two Ancient Gods DLC's even with Game Pass its 23 bucks (CAD) per DLC ($25 without on Microsoft platforms and $27 on Playstation), which is about in-line with Ghost of Tsushima's price upgrade, unless the DLC is ridiculously short (but most of the recent Sony in house DLC's have been quite sizable such as Horizon:Forbidden West and Spider-Man). Historically, American companies tend to be more consumer-friendly than Japanese ones, partially due to cultural differences (which is reflected in Sony and Nintendo's refund policies, and led to the nightmare Cyberpunk refund situation with Sony).

Just to clear this up. That price is not included, you buy them separately. The PS4 directors cut is $20 US, the directors cut + the PS5 upgrade is $30.

They did this same thing with Spiderman but worse. You cant even buy the remaster you have to buy Miles Morales deluxe edition to get Spiderman Remastered. And theres no deluxe edition upgrade either. If you bought Miles Morales and decided you wanted spiderman remastered you need to buy the full deluxe edition. I'll admit this one might not be so much anti-consumer Sony nickel and diming as much as them just being lazy and forgetting to put this option on the playstation store.

Yes, theyre different business models, but like I said, Square Enix gave the upgrade for free and they arguably did far more work on the PS5 port, and they had the exact same priced DLC content.

The $10 gap is to account for the $10 dollar gap that the two games retail for. Which is to stop people from buying the PS4 Directors cut version to get the PS5 version $10 cheaper. Sony could make a good-faith move and sell the PS5 retail version at 59.99, but that is why the pricing discrepancy exists on the upgrade between PS4 and PS5 versions.

Yes, obviously, but the upgrade is not included which is what I thought you were saying. You have to pay for the upgrade separate from the DLC. I realize now you were saying that.

My point is tons of developers including square who imo did more work on that PS5 port made their upgrade free.

Nioh is another one (even though I don't actually like the games) that made the upgrade completely free.

Edit: Another big one I just remembered. Metro Exodus released a PS5 and Series X update with fully raytraced lighting at 60 fps on PS5 and Series X completely free. How can you rationalize charging $10 for a port when a way smaller studio provides the update completely free with far more work put in?

Let me be clear it is up to the dev and I'm aware Activision and possibly Ubisoft are charging the $10 (though I believe EA is not for the first year), but I really respect devs way more who offer the updates for free.

Any news/leaks yet of a Slim version?
This is just my guess, but I would say don't expect one any time soon. Shrinking the processor for a slim version used to save money, these days it's almost the opposite. A 5 nm processor can cost more than a 7 nm.

They can't even find the parts to make the base model, dunno when I would start expecting revisions.
