Some Interesting Stats About Our Offense

God I hate this team. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the least offensively creative team I have ever seen. I mean seriously, watch other teams play and really pay attention. They actually pass and skate into the zone. It's like ****ing Space Jam or something.

Watching worse teams being more creative on offense than us is truly baffling. I don't buy into the idea that there isn't enough talent on the NYR.

I agree. I watch the Predators alot. This team's best scorer by far is the incomparable Colin Wilson, and I kid you not they can enter the zone thrice as effectively as we do.

And they're considered an offensive blackhole. The blackholes look like the Penguins next to us.

A big part of it is coaching. I know the running joke is Torts doesn't coach offense but I'm really beginning to wonder if that's really a just a joke.

I'm with you 100%. I was talking to a bunch of my Ranger's buddies and we all agree that this team as currently constructed is "unwatchable.". My friend Tommy told me this morning that he knew 10 minutes in that they were going to lose and so he switched channels to the NCAA's.

I won't be satisfied and certainly not happy unless there is a "complete cleansing of the organization and team, top to bottom!

I'm with you there, can't wait to see Tortorella go walk his dogs on another team.

Richards won the conn smythe before getting here w 91 pts. You don't just lose all your talent in a year. Gabs scored more goals last year than anyone of them and Nash put up 70 pts on a horrible team. Get a new coach

Spot on.

Talent does not just ****ing disappear in a calendar year. ****, the ECF ended for us in May.

The new season started 8 months later.

8 months is not the difference between being elite and talented and not.

****ing coaching.

Coupled with the fact that our bottom six is atrocious offensively just compounds the problem.

We are being saved by Rick Nash only because hes motivated this year to do well and start anew.

Who knows what happens with him next year, but hes still gotta produce and prove statistically IMO for this trade to be worth it. Im more about the end result, not too much into style of play.

The big positive about Nash is that hes more suited for this system. Right. A system we shouldnt be employing. Gaborik and Richards would probably do better than Nash in a more creative offensive system, especially when you COACH it.

Right, it's all coaching and has absolutely nothing to do with Richards and Gaborik stinking up the ice and mailing it in night after night. I get it now; we go out and hire a coach, doesn't matter who it is, and then everything will be just hunky dorey!
Your theory is stand up routine material dude; people will be rolling around on the floor dying of laughter when they hear it!

Richards and Gaborik were not nearly this bad last year under the same coach with the same gameplan. The coaching not adjusting to the roster changes since last year is a problem, yes, but Richards and Gaborik have their own problems that go beyond the coaching. You don't got from 41 goals to what Gaborik has done so far this season just because the bottom six on your team got worse. The system is the same as last year for him but he's playing with Nash or a much improved Stepan most of the time. He's not playing well this year. Richards, I don't think even needs to be explained at this point. He wasn't nearly this bad last year. He looks absolutely lost and thats not all because of coaching.

No reason this team should be tied for dead last in GF. Completely unacceptable. They may not be what they were last year, but they're way better than this. Yeah you can say they are conversely #6 in GA, but honestly I'd rather it be the other way around.

Depressing.

Fellas, im not suggesting coaching is 100% of the issue.

Im suggesting its a major contributing factor.

Ding ding ding! Finally, some semblance of common sense around here! I was beginning to think like everyone else around here that Richards and Gaborik sucking nite after nite had everything to do with Tort's coaching and nothing to do with them just plain old stinking it up!!

Phew! I was starting to believe it was all coaching causing the "cluster **** that is our team as it relates to goal scoring.

He can find another organization dumb enough to hire him and allow him to cash a paycheck for doing nothing!

You do know that some of these players that are and not on this team is because Torts has had some input?

What coach doesn't have input? Were you too young to remember Psycho Mike Keenan making all the rosters moves as the "de facto" GM with Neal Smith as the figurehead?? Sure, we won a cup, our only cup in 72+ years and counting so all the moves were easily justified even though they set the team back for years to come.
Luckily for Psycho Mike, he didn't hang around long enough to be affected by the lose of Weight, Amonte, etcetera and so on.

Yes, coaches do have input into shaping their roster!

Then how does this negate him having any faults with the product on the ice? Are you impressed with the PP? His responses to whenever someone asks him why it's in the *******?

I mean, I want to know what kind of practices they have. Surely it's not shooting practices because this team is still inept at one-timers and have a high likelihood of shooting it wide and high. How about our entry into the offensive zone? Have you been impressed with our dump and chase?

Forget the PP; that's now the least of our worries. How the **** does he explain himself that this team is now 29th in GF?

Who is the only person to hold Michael Jordon below 30 points per game? Dean Smith.

Who is the only person to hold a talent laden roster to 28th in the NHL in scoring? John Tortorella.

There we go again with the "talent laden roster" mumbo jumbo nonsense. Who else aside from Nash, the missing in action Richards and Gaborik and perhaps Callahan and Stepan makes up the rest of this "talent laden" roster?

Hagelin. That's 6 players, two legitimate lines that should be producing. Actually, some people have been calling for Torts to put back together Nash, Stepan, and Hagelin.

Del Zotto also needs to pull his head out of his ass with regards to shooting. He shouldn't be this bad for this long. Stralman is probably a better player to play on the PP but Torts - for one reason or another - loves putting Girardi out there.

Dude, like it or not, it's on the players for not getting it done. Changing coaches is not going to have this gigantic appreciable affect on our production if certain players who are paid mucho bucks to produce don't PRODUCE!!! It's that simple; stop tying the whole process into the coach and only the coach.

Well you just named 5 of the top 6. Hags has been good this year. Miller has talent, but isn't ready. I just don't know about CK.

That's what we have on offense. That's more than most teams. A top six of Richards Gaborik Nash Callahan Stepan Hagelin SHOULD be enough to win. There aren't many top 2 lines as good as that, on paper.

Defense has McD, G, Staal, DZ, and even Stralman, who's been huge. When healthy (and Stralman and DZ right now are the only ones who looks healthy), that's top 5 in the league.

We're weak at the bottom of our forwards. THATS it.

Seriously, this is a roster that should be competing for home ice, not a playoff spot
