Soccer / Football Thread Part Seven

Carlo taking the Brazil job in bizarre to me. Though I guess he was going to be out of a job in a couple months and he has won everything at the club level.
Not sure what he expects to achieve there. Must be the worst Brazil squad in decades. No midfield and probably the least exciting attack they've ever had.
Ancelotti isn't exactly a master tactician either. Has disaster written all over it.

Not sure what's going on with Odegaard, but this can't continue.

Couldn’t even put a decent cross in off a free kick
I actually think the team would be better off for the return leg in Paris if he was dropped for Nwaneri. It's gotten this bad. Every attack comes to a screeching halt as soon as he has the ball. Infuriating.

Between him not getting a yellow and the non pen definitely put some eyes on the ref.
Ref was trash all game. Timber could've had 3 or 4 yellows and didn't get any lol.

Idk he's one of the most important out of possession players and I'm pretty sure that's one of the reasons Arteta likes him so much. It's his athleticism that lets him down imo.

I give him credit for his pressing. He usually does that very effectively and it might be the only reason Arteta hasn't dropped him yet.

But he's become so ineffective on the ball that he ruins the possession phases. He almost looks scared sometimes. Always turning back with the ball, slowing the game down in the process.
His decision-making in general has been pretty bad for some time now. Playing the wrong pass, refusing to shoot, etc. His constant refusal, or inability, to use his right foot doesn't help him either. Makes him completely predictable and easy to defend.

He's never been the strongest or quickest player and it's become really noticeable how easy he gets pushed off the ball. But I don't think that's it.

The drop-off in his performances compared to last season has been Dele Alli level and I can't wrap my head around it. Maybe it's injury-related and he just needs some rest. But if he returns as the same player next season then I'm ready to write him off, tbh.

I would definitely strip him off the armband. The worst performing player can't be the captain.

I'm not sure what to think tbh. Might watch some old games to see if there's a major difference. I trust Arteta though, he quickly brung in Raya when he didn't trust Ramsdale anymore.

Pretty sure him turning back with the ball/slowing down in transition is an Arteta tactic as well.

Yeah, Arteta has shown to be ruthless when he feels necessary. But for some reason Odegaard has escaped that kind of treatment yet. Might happen soon though. Arteta isn't blind.

As a United fan he was was favorite player over the last few seasons but there is definitely something off now.
