Nothing will happen.

What should happen:

Scratch Kleven, he has lost all confidence and is making catastrophically bad decisions 2 games in a row.

Start Forsberg. Overplaying Ullmark to find his game has not worked. Sit him for a few games and go back to him in the future.

Staois needs to start making phonecalls about Tkachuk and Norris to see what he can get for them to shake up this core. Ideally you get someone to pair with Stutzle/Batherson so they can be more successful at even strength.

Pinto, Greig, Cousins, Perron have been giant f***ing zeroes. Start a rotating scratch of guys like that. I might be missing a few names but the 4 I have is a good start. Call up people from the AHL to fill the 1 or 2 roster spots you create by scratching those guys. Put Ostapchuk in. Find other guys in the AHL who might be deserving of showcasing their ability and talent and willingness to not be a floating liability.

Hypothetically, if they wanted to move Brady in a hockey trade they could do it right away. Staios already gauged the market for all his assets when he took over. So he would have an idea of what would have been out there for Tkachuk 6 months ago.

Brady will be in a New York Rangers jersey by this time next week and I can pretend I have inside sources. I will probably parlay that into starting a podcast. I have some really good ideas for segments.

They better get at least Lafreniere and Perreault

Nothing will happen. The GM is in his first full year, the coach hasn’t been here for 20 games. They’ll preach patience and pretend that they haven’t watched any game tape from the last 4 years. They just need more time!

We’re in purgatory. We’re the Charlotte Hornets of the NHL.

The Rangers have Will Cuylle playing the power forward role for league minimum. He has 3 fewer goals than Brady.

Doubt they’d be interested unless they flame out in the playoffs.

I wouldn't expect to see any significant trades until after xmas. Most we'll see int he meantime will be some shuffling between Ottawa and Belleville.

Nothing. It’s been obvious Staios has a plan A and plan B since he got here.

Plan A - surround the core with vets, a goalie and coaching he trusts. Give them a chance to show they can do it. If they can, continue to build and tweak around them until they’re a contender.

Plan B - if the core can’t do it, say you’ve evaluated the team and it’s clear there is a gap so a retool will be needed. They will say they intend on it being quick. But this isn’t gonna happen until later in the season when the team is really for sure out of it. Then they will begin offloading after that.

He was probably hoping Plan A would work out but I don’t think he was under the illusion that it was for sure going to work out, so I don’t see any reactionary moves here.

If Brady moves anytime soon, this team moves down the 401

This entire scenario bleeds back to when they didn't get the team early enough, and a GM desperate to win was able to do significant damage at the TDL and in the summer by making moves that judging by Staios undoing most of them the next season, weren't in line with their vision for the team.

I don't think they are in a position to punt the season. They need to put a winning product on the ice. It is still early enough to turn things around. If they wait until January, it won't be.

I think we see Brady traded in the next week because he's gone anyways by July 1st, and they might have an idea of who or what they can get for him. Trades are difficult to make in season, but if it's a hockey trade where Brady is going somewhere else for a different star player or a package of players like Matthew for Weegar+Huberdeau, it's not nearly as hard to make because it's cap in/cap out.

They need to salvage this season. They can't just punt it. Guys like Chabot, you're not going to find a market for. A player like Brady, other teams will change their plans to try and get him. There will be no, call us back in the summer when we have the flexibility. Teams will make flexibility.

People are tired of losing and won't care that he is traded. This isn't like the Karlsson trade where there were always signs that if Melnyk would sell and get out of the way, we could build a franchise around Karlsson and Stone, because even with all the restrictions we still managed to go on some big runs and make the playoffs a few times.

With the Karlsson trade, outside of the biggest contrarians, nobody wanted to see him gone. With Brady, I think there is a mix of people who have unrealistic views of what he should have been capable of as captain and resent him for it, then there are people who acknowledge the he is a "unicorn" but understand that he is probably gone anyways at the end of the season.

It's a strange situation, but if they get back a big name a Brady trade will probably be met with at worst apathy. I think 3-6 months down the line is when there will be an actual reaction based on whether it saves the season.

Ultimately, I find it hard to believe that Staios doesn't know what the market is for Brady, and who to call. I don't think we could trade someone like Chabot or Norris in season without a lot of legwork and a big turn around, but because of how valuable Brady is I think we could trade him right away because teams aren't going to hemmm and haww about Brady. The same way that Florida didn't hemm and haww about Matthew, and moved two core players to get him.

Matthew Tkachuk is good at hockey and cares. We aren't getting anywhere close to that return.

Matthew Tkachuk is a top line player and star who works his ass off even if he's a rat. Brady Tkachuk is a top 6 guy.

I would be fine with Brady Tkachuk in Ottawa if we had another player of the caliber of Stutzle on this roster. Another guy who can create for others consistently. But we don't. And we're hoping Brady Tkachuk can be that guy. We're hoping Brady Tkachuk can be Matthew Tkachuk. And after 4 years it's pretty obvious he cannot be Matthew Tkachuk. That's okay. Now we know lets move forward accordingly.

When it comes to whether the fans would be upset about a Brady trade, psychologically the perspective has now changed where the players are the only ones left to blame because the two big contributing factors to this franchise being perpetually held back are both gone. Those are Melnyk and Dorion, although, Dorion was only in the position he was in as a symptom of Melnyk's ownership.

The only way people will be upset about a Brady trade is if the return is a Joe Thornton type return where we panic and trade Tkachuk for 2-3 good roster players who in a bubble might make us deeper on paper now but are worth nowhere near the value of Tkachuk.
