So, we panic yet?

If we're still doing this in 10 games or so, then the concern sets in. 5 game after that, is panic.

I think we'll be okay though. Our play is on the up.
 
I tend to hold my reservations for the trade deadline.

Things can turn around quick in the NHL. Look what happened to the Blues after their start.
 
The people who keep saying "We won the cup last year, who cares" are the same people who have made 35-40K/year and strive for nothing but mediocrity. Do you guys not want more? When it comes to winning the cup, the players should want it now more than ever because they know good winning feels that they want to live through it again. I was obviously very excited that we won last year and will forever cherish the moment, but it's time to move on. It's a new season.
 
I'm past panic. Panic was Mitchell being out indefinitely, then Greene going down.

I'm on to acceptance at this point. If this team makes the playoffs with the roster as-is, I'll be shocked.
 
Not time to panic by any stretch.

I think DL will go out and get us another scorer pretty soon and Quick will turn it around. Those are our biggest issues right now.

That's not a very good analogy.

A better one would be living a mediocre live, striking it rich suddenly, and then being happy with mediocrity.
 
I'm not happy with mediocrity at all, however after having the weight of possibly becoming the NHL version of a Chicago Cubs fan lifted from my back, I don't feel the same pressure following every game I did in the past. I can now look at my past and say I have actually seen one of my teams win a championship.

I know that when someone else raises the cup again, it'll start to fuel that desire again for me, but right now it just feels like we (as fans, not players) can relax and actually enjoy the spoils of all our years of suffering. It's like going on vacation for the first time in years, you're damn right I'm going to lay in the sun and do nothing but bask in the glory of what I have earned.

I think their biggest issue remains the void of Willie Mitchell. He is sorely missed. ANd it remains a bit vague on if he is returning on not or how soon.

Adding scoring depth is something a lot of teams are looking to do and the selling price will be high, maybe more that DL will go. The closer it gets to April, the higher the price will be and the seller is in a position to hold out to get more. I don't seem him pulling the trigger this soon.

There was a rumor I read earlier today that DL is talking to the Devils again.

Look folks, one of the things we used to covet were players that had won a Stanley Cup because players that had done it know what it takes. Well, know we have over 20 players of that type on our roster.

The loss of Mitchell and Greene are having an impact. Let's give Sutter and the boys a chance to figure this out before we start going nuts.

I can tell you this, even with winning the cup Dean never stopped or stops looking for ways to improve the hockey club's player personnel. It's a little too early in the season to be too discouraged.

lol, what an absurd comparison. Winning the cup is the ultimate goal. If you don't enjoy it for a few seasons afterwards, you will always be miserable as a fan, since 29 years out of 30 your aren't going to win.

There is no ultimate goal of working life to aim for since you can always go up and up

If you rubbed a bottle last year and a genie popped out of it and said "If you accept 5 years of Kings mediocrity from 2013 to 2018 then I'll guarantee a Cup win for you in 2012", what would you have said?

Panic is too strong of a word for me. I am frustrated.
On paper we should have a high scoring team. I know Sutter is a defensive coach, but the team still shoudl be consitently putting up points.
 
Typically players don't score much under Sutter. Look at Iginla for example, his two worst seasons offensively from 2001-2002 to 2008-2009 were the two Sutter coached him. And one was a Stanley Cup finalist and the next was a team amny picked to be a very good team and maybe take another run at a cup. Arguably the best team Iggy's played on.

Sutter will grind out 2-1 and 3-2 wins. He's Terry Murray with accountability.

Plus making 35-40K a year yourself, and having no agency over what other people playing hockey and running an organization do while playing hockey and running that organization, are two different things.

I'm guessing we fans have wanted a Cup a hell of a lot longer than just 1 year, and look what we usually got instead.

As for the players wanting to win again, I would find it hard to believe that any of them don't want to win it again, or don't care if they win it again. If they don't win, or especially if they miss the playoffs completely, nobody will be more embarrassed than the players. Sure, they will have made far more than 35-40K, and will strive to make more next year, but they won't be content with this season if such a fate is their destiny. Maybe that's why the Kings got McFly's dad.
 
I think this game was and will be turn around in a season. There was effort and they know it. With such display Kings can win much more than 50% of the games.
St. Louis will give an answer in a tough back to back though :nod:

What your saying is true but you do not become elite with one run or two even but in being in the battles together season after season, we are setup to have a good 5 year run with our core being in their prime

I agree that the big picture still looks good but the current picture stinks. Kind of a weird place to be a long time King fan, on the one hand I'm more than content with last years run and championship. I still smile when the commercials come on and you hear the final calls from play by plays-and I never smile! On the other hand there is still that bitter, long time fan that demands success each and every game. And then you have the big picture where I like the players on the team, I like the character of the guys on the team, I like the coaching, the GM has been making moves bringing in players that i prefer while sending out guys like Jack Johnson who I couldn't stand. I guess that leaves me riding the fence which isn't very comfortable. I think a package deal is coming.

Only if the 6 teams ahead of the Kings lose. It's not the total points that is the issue, it is how many teams the Kings have to climb over to get the 8th seed.

With all of the 3 points games in the West, it is harder to climb the standings.


And I'm not saying it is over, but the Kings have dug another huge hole with a poor start to the season. It's going to take a much longer than 2 game winning streak to get the Kings back into the playoff picture.

I agree it's early, but it's certainly OK to be discouraged now. I agree the Kings have played some excellent hockey of late, but they are still losing.

Going back to the arrival of Gretzky (1988), the Kings have had fewer than 8 points after ten games only once. In 2009 (the year we finished fifth from last and drafted Brayden Schenn).

Since 1988, the Kings had 8 points after ten games five times.
They made the playoffs once out of those five. 2001-2002. (So I guess that’s the first bit of good news?)

The Kings are currently in 14th place, second to last, in both the official and in my points-blown standings.

However, in points-blown, they are only 2 points-blown out of 7th place. (So that’s the second bit of good news.)

The Kings have the worst 5-on-5 save-percentage in the league."

That's this current core's MO. They have needed unbelievable runs in Feb-March of every year since 09-10 to make the playoff's.
