There was that athletic article about how since adopting their daughter both he and his wife have re evaluated a lot of their beliefs. I don't know any of them personally but having also grown up in a cult religious background, you really start to be able to discover your own values when you're no longer dependent on anyone. Slavin is probably underpaid for what he brings at the nhl level but by any other standard is set for life. He may be and by his own account in that article is examining a lot of his own beliefs

I should hope f***ing so. His parents added an extra c in his name so no one would confuse him with the 5-letter J man from the Bible.
Smart people. No kid should be subject to being continuously "mistaken" for the guy who is "wrestling" an angel in this painting of Rembrandt's.

Him being a red-shirted bearded guy and everything.

By all indications, his beliefs are completely inoffensive.

Speaking as a non-believer, it’s shitty to say he probably has some problematic secrets based solely on the fact that he’s openly Christian. How about we hold that thought till he actually gives us evidence of problematic behavior, rather than behaving like one of the most decent and compassionate people in the league.

Totally agree, and hope my above post didn't suggest otherwise

Some of the best people I've ever known were Mormon, despite all the whispers I heard growing up that they were cult members and alien worshippers and all kinds of other crazy shit people say about other groups of people who believe differently than them.

it's way past time to stop fearing/hating people based on what they believe or what larger group they belong to. The shitty people of any group will inevitably reveal themselves for what they are. We can still hate, but let's hate on merit.

except for vegans. and Bruins fans. f*** all of them anyway

So is that powered by Baboons? or powered with baboons..
It's a regular furnace, large enough for a person and a baboon. The offender is strapped to the baboon, and the furnace is turned on. You can imagine what happens next.

It's inspired by an Eastern Roman emperor who threatened to execute a prisoner that way.

Christians using the word cult as a pejorative is just the most precious thing ever.

Best how? Believing that women shouldn't hold the most important positions of power is not a "best" people quality. Nor is the belief that God's highest "level" can only be achieved by those in a heterosexual marriage.

I am not singling out Momorns--you made that point. We all have some unappealing beliefs--but participating in structural inequalities deserves questioning if not some level of opprobrium.

In the case of these particular Christians, absolutely. It's why I didn't set foot in a church for about 15 years. But don't be fooled into thinking they're the only game in town just because they're the loudest. While the southern baptists are pumping money into the most corrupt elements of the GOP and guilting 5 year old little kids into thinking they're sinners who are going to hell unless they repent, the Methodists, Episcopalians, Lutherans and others (at least the more progressive elements of those) are actually out there doing the kind of shit Jesus would have people do, like helping the less fortunate.
