Is there a particular play in that first Preds game that can illuminate when he got hurt?

I also fear that surgery is needed and no matter the rest he won't be back fit this year.

I re-watched the 1st period last week looking for it. Nothing stood out. Really, much like the 1st period in Game 1, his body language wasn't great on his 1st shift in that game.

I haven't seen a single suggestion of what might have hurt him, which is why I'm thinking something like a hairline fracture or other stress/repetition related injury. Slavin skated a ton of hard minutes this season, so something like that wouldn't be a shock.

Interesting...could have been hurt in a previous game or practice then. I was thinking groin, hammy or hip but of course it could be leg related too.

Regardless, a big hit to our SC chances.

It sounds like that's the case. The games-off are still valuable for the sake of risk management, keeping him from exacerbating the issue.

I think of what happened to Karlsson's career trajectory after he played through hairline fractures in his heel for the sake of a playoff run. That type of injury could very well be what Slavin's dealing with.

I was also thinking something like a groin or even abdominal pull/tear. Pulled groin muscles are notoriously difficult to rehab and would clearly slow a skater down, limit his mobility. There are a number of guys who played through torn ab muscles but it showed in their play as well.

I just think if it was a hairline fracture, he'd be shut down.

Can’t imagine he’d let Tro do that little jump into his arms if it was abdominal. I think it’s legs.

It's natural to speculate, but the fact of the matter is, we have no clue what he's dealing with. Could be muscle, bone, tendons, ligaments, etc.... May require surgery, may require extended rest (like a high ankle sprain). There are a ton of scenarios where a guy might try to gut it out and be in and out like Slavin is and just because we didn't see the specific play, doesn't mean much. You can pull a muscle or sprain something on what looks like the most innocuous play. The cameras don't cover his every move, particularly when he's away from the puck.

Wow, uh, the crowd at the Carolina Alehouse downtown is pretty sparse compared to 2 years ago that much I can tell you.

So if Slavin isn’t playing in game five after what has just gone down, I’m officially concerned. We actually need him now so if they won’t play him it has to be something bigger.

Agreed. If it's "just" nagging and difficult to play with but cannot be made worse, I understand taking the risk of sitting him to heal a bit. But not once you hit game 5.

If he could aggravate it to possibly need surgery and a long rehab, that would explain holding him out of a pivotal playoff game.

If he will eventually need surgery, just do it now. We aren’t good enough to win it all without him at full strength it appears, so no point waiting or risking further damage.
