If Slava was half as bad as some of you guys constantly point out, I'm sure Sutter would have benched him at some point of the season, wouldn't you think??? Yes, bit of a down year, but nowhere close to what some of you guys make it out to be.

yes, because:
1. we havent won the cup yet and it seems as if some of our D-corp (ie slava) keep trying to give the series away
2. slava's an important member of the team
3. im genuinely perplexed

does that answer your question?

Some players are handling fatigue better than others.

We need to keep in mind the Kings have played 100+ games a season for 3 years now, and 105 games this year. If they win the Cup playing 107 or more, that'll be an NHL record. No team has ever played this many playoff games to win a Cup before. Its tough. Thankfully the Rangers have played a ton as well, but you're seeing all these high scoring defense-not-first games for a reason.

Voynov did have a terrible game 2. So did Mitchell and Greene, but again, the fact that he seemed to be getting worse as the season wore on is also indicative of fatigue.

You guys know I tease Slava a bit on these boards...especially when it came to paying more for sticks than his salary... I'm only hoping for the old standard "first big contract jitters" for most of the problems...

Quietly...Slava had a career year in points...but had the worst luck of pucks bouncing off him for own goals...and STILL has that problem... Sure...he needs to be a bit stronger in his decision making with the puck as well...but I hope time will heal that...

Fatigue, as well as increased responsibilities and expectations usually lead to some struggles as well as a learning curve.

Voynov's struggles are noticeable. He's on a new contract and now that he has made a good adjustment in finding the style of play that fits him so he can succeed, he now needs to learn to train better as a pro and adapt to be successful within the confines of his skillset.

I don't expect him to set the world on fire next season, but I do think he'll create more scoring opportunities and limit opportunities against.

That's because this is his first full season of 82 games played.

Voynov was amazing in last years' playoffs. This year, he's hit that sophmore slump I guess you could say. (2012 he came late, 2013 was a 48 game season.) Also heard was trying to bulk up in the offseason and ended up coming into season out of shape. I fully expect the kid to recover next season.

It's actually quite impressive what this team has been able to do despite guys like Brown, Richards, and Voynov not producing like you'd expect. Many guys have stepped up, and everyone as a whole has gritted this out to get back to the Final.

hey you forgot greene, lewis and king, amazing how they keep winning what suxaases:sarcasm:

Any discussion of Voynov needs to take into consideration his partners. He hasn't been as good since 2012, but he hasn't had partners as good since then. It's been Regher the human anchor, or the rapidly aging Mitchell. If this team gets a solid top-four defenseman in the offseason (just let me hope, okay?), the biggest beneficiary might be Voynov. A good partner for him could return him to top form.

that is exactly what I was thinking! He's in a little slump...minus the few goals he has given the opposition I don't think he has done that bad...I hope he gets the GWG tomorrow and shuts some of you up LOL! Let's take this ****!

I think he's hurt. Hip/abdominal injury. He's not shooting as much and when he does he's got next to no umph on it. He can't skate as fast or as hard either. I think he'll likely have surgery in the offseason.

Just my opinion.

I swear I'm re-watching last night's game right now and I still can't believe the level of criticism of Voynov. He made a LOT of excellent plays both offensively and defensively and has occasionally been bested in a few battles. It's the Stanley Cup Finals for crissakes. I swear some of you think the New York Rangers are the Ontario Reign or something. Even the very best teams and players get beat. Stop focusing on only the negative and see the whole picture.

Slava Voynov has played in 111 of a possible 111 pre/regular/post-season games for the Kings this season. Five Olympic games too. #IronMan

Long season for Slava.

No I refuse to put it on his partners. Schultz CARRIED Slava on his back when he was in the lineup.

This is simply Slava having a poor season, just call it what it is. Slava simply needs a reset, and unfortunate the off-season is only the place he can get that.
I'm okay with the conclusion being that he's had a poor season, but what I meant was more about gathering information. I'd want to see the data with his various partners, because the eye test--while helpful--can sometimes hide underlying patterns. I just want to know what those patterns are before I conclude that he is in fact having a poor season.

Wow.

That's value in and of itself.

We have this weird thing where we got to see Doughty come right in after the draft and become a #1 defenseman and a Norris candidate as a teenager. That's as rare as Patrick Roy winning the Cup as a rookie. The normal situation is like Bouwmeester where it took a third of his career to become a recognized defensemen.

Felt the same way. And for his misgivings he's still excellent breaking out and never hesitates to put the puck on net unlike another Euro-trained player on this team I'm thinking of...

Regehr is to blame for everything from Slava to Hextall leaving, to Heidi leaving to O'Neal not leaving

Seriously, how many goals in the past few years playoffs have gone off Voynov and into the Kings' net? Maybe I'll go back and get a total. I wonder if some teams try for Voynov now. Couldn't hurt for them to try.

Honest question: Who would Sutter play in his place? Voynov has been VoyKNOB all season, but as others have pointed out, this is his first full year. Nothing is going to change in these last few games of this season in that regard, but I do expect him to bounce back mucho next year. He's too good not to.

In all seriousness though. Slava has been fine offensively and defensively. He is having an absolute nightmare when it comes to having the puck on his stick in the defensive zone. I don't have any explanation why, but just from an eye test point of view, he seems to be really really struggling to just simply clear the zone

Last night was the first night where I thought Slava got better as the game went on. He was really solid and started to resemble his former self.

I think the team as a whole is fatigued, they are just so strong willed they are pulling through on determination. Regardless of what happens, they all need a good rest over the summer.
