Slafkovsky heating up

That's eight goals in 12 games for Juraj Slafkovský since Jan. 15. As of right now, only Marchessault, Matthews, Eriksson Ek, MacKinnon and Pastrnak have more in the NHL over that span.

Slafkovsky now has 21 points in his last 23 games (since the week before Christmas).75 point pace (36G, 39A pace) for the 19 year old through that span
It’s kinda nuts because back around Christmas time he was being criticized for not shooting enough. He’s only recently started firing at the net and all of a sudden everything is going in for him.

He had zero puck luck for so long and it’s totally reversed itself. Some of that may have to do with him staying after class with the shooting coach but he’s still been so impressive. Those goals have been powerful rips from the slot for the most part.

Yeah, many of us on the habs board could see that the points would eventually come due to his strong play, despite it not registering on the scoresheet. (Including yourself) Hell alot of us weren't even concerned with the points as long as he showed his continued progression...

But noone could see this kind of explosion. It's impossible not to be impressed,

Well I guess it's time to plan the parade eh with PPG Salf and 50 goal CC?

All kidding aside it's good to see this progress but I'll be more interested how he and the Habs start next season, injuries and a real lack of depth at the center position really hurts development of wingers.

Habs fans giving ammo to everyone else when Slaf eventually slumps.

I prefer the under promise and overdeliver perspective.

Ammo for what?

Watching a young prospect showing promise that he may fulfill his potential?

Being excited that a 19 year old is going on a nice tear right now over a 23 game span?

Is this not what "Hockey Future" was created for?

What's the issue?

It's not like we're gloating here.

I don't like in your face bragging threads either but this isn't one of them, we're just discussing a recent 1st overall pick who's starting to look pretty good after a dreadful start.

If the anti-Habs posters can't handle it they can go elsewhere.

This.

Let's just discuss the player without all the other nonsense.

His play warrants recognition.

I am conflicted. As a Bruins fan, I can’t wish the Habs anything good. But as a Slovak, I can’t help but cheer for Slaf, he is the best thing to happen to our hockey in decades (last time we had a young player this exciting was Gaborik, drafted in 2000). Perhaps he should be traded to give me some peace of mind.

I think it ought to be a given that if slafkovsky is going to play a top 6 role, that he will be sticking with Suzuki.

They have Suzuki and dach down the middle for now, and I think it makes more sense to spread the big bodies out rather than have slaf and dach on the same line.

Caufield is the one I can potentially see being paired with dach down the road either long term or whenever the team just needs a shakeup to their lines.

If things continue to pan out the way they are, it looks like montreal has figured out 4 peices to their long term top 6..... caufield, Suzuki, dach, and slafkovsky.

The latter two still have some questions. Dach is often injured but has shown significant promise for those who followed him daily last year, and slafkovsky inherently has questions simply because he's still only 19 years of age , but I think its more likely than not that that 4 of the top 6 peices are already built in for that organization moving forward.

It was not a dreadful start. He learned a lot during that peeriod, and his coaches were happy with him.

His ceiling is unfathomable.

His physical and defensive game are already impressive for a teenager, and he's starting to score at almost a PPG clip.

Plus he seems extremely coachable.

Impossible to predict what he'll become, but you don't see that kind of profile very often.

I'm not really worried about the forward core, especially if Dach can bounce back from his injury struggles. It's the defense that worries me the most. The core is still very much in development phase and outside of Matheson and Savard (who aren't exactly top pair quality) there aren't any vets to take off their load. Obviously we don't know how Reinbacher and Hutson will pan out at the NHL level but for next year I'm not expecting a whopping improvement in terms of team defense.
