yeah but hes a 1st overall pick so..... Ill agree it is early and there's plenty of time but I dunno if Slav should have been number 1
Yeah..I deleted first reply by mistake.
It was about 1OA.
I notice that form the start of this season many Habs fans started calling him "not a typical 1OA" and that he should not be compared to other 1OA forwards since he is not a typical 1OA. ;)

Slaf looks pretty good when he has the puck and you can see why he tantalized scouts. He's really big, he's a strong skater, he has a good shot, and he's a strong passer. But when you see without the puck, you can tell why he didn't light the Finnish league on fire in his draft year. He's just slow to react and always behind the play. The result is he rarely has the puck, so he can't use his good qualities. I've also noticed he relies on his teammates to control the puck in the offensive zone. If he wants to succeed in this league, he'll need to be way more engaged.

Mostly, I wonder how so many scouts thought he was worthy of being first overall. It's not just Montreal who had him at number 1. Lots of pre-draft rankings had him there, or at least in the top three. I looked through some of the pre-draft scouting reports and the negatives people mentioned are turning out to be all the flaws we're seeing on the ice. But somehow his size, speed, and success at the Olympics fooled everyone. As a Habs fan, I want him to turn out well, but I'm not hopeful.

It's all about skating, skating and skating in the NHL. Power forwards are dying breed, unless you have exceptional vision. Just check NHL top scorers now and how many of them are sluggish skaters with big frame and bodymass?

You were saying that Slaf would have more points if he played 4 mins PP per game with Suzuki and CC.
That is just an assumption, not a certainity.

Obviously, but chances are pretty high he would have more pts. Would McDavid still be the best scorer in the nhl if he played on the habs? Probably, but it's not a certainty.

Slafkosky has only 3 PP points in 59 games.
Tanner Pearson has 2 in 19 games. 3rd escaped him for 1 second last night.

I don't see the point of this comparison?
Also, your stats are wrong since Slafkovsky wasn't used on the pp for many games last season.
Pearson also has 3 pp points in his last 59 nhl games.

I fully agree with everything you wrote.
Especially with this sentence. Time for him to start to act like 1OA on the ice or things are not going to be better for him since new prospects will join the roster pretty soon. Much sooner then he thinks they'll come.

There isn't anyone at the top of that draft that looks like a future superstar right now. Usually in year 2, there's a player or 3 that has really taken off.

I'd say that Mintyukov looks like he has the highest potential right now.

Both Slavkovsky and Wright look like they can be good players, but neither guy has a superstar skill set. They all have strengths and weaknesses. At the start of this year, Cooley was the most hyped. Good player, but he looks small and weak without a great shot. Could be a great setup guy, but can't see him becoming a great goal scorer. Kaspar should be a good player, but great? No way. Who knows, even a guy like Gauthier could end up being the best of this bunch,

Kind of underwhelming compared to other years' top 10s. Although certainly not terrible, a lot of good players there.

It's not a surprise that this draft is more random, with COVID restrictions affecting players development and scouting.
