Post-Game Talk: Skinner with another spectacular Game 4 win

Yeah, I’ve watched a couple of hockey games before.

Doesn’t change the fact that the Oilers got railed in the second period and Skinner saved their asses.
Whets your point exactly? Did you expect a team to dominate every period? Oilers have dominated 7 out of 9 periods… seems like you think no other team has these periods.

Of course I don’t. All I was responding to was a poster brushing off the fact that Skinner completely stepped up when the entire team took the second period off.

That was a very interesting game to watch!
- Dallas carried most of the play 5v5 (mostly in the 2nd period) but we capitalized on our chances and feasted on the counterattack.
- Skinner made a couple of huge saves (Came across laterally to rob Blackwell and mostly notably the point blank glove save on Duchene leading to a McDavid goal shortly after).
- Dallas was out to kill in this one. Bischel appeared to trip RNH and then pushed him into the boards while he was falling (was pretty pissed with the no call). That Petrovic hit on Brown was also very dirty as point of contact was chin. Not surprised though as their coach and players were whining about the Nurse slash.
- Dallas didn’t have an answer for McDavid. Dude was all over the ice tonight and created so much space out there. Keep that up and this series is over soon.
- Oddly enough, this was far from our “A” game (except for Skinner and a couple of others) but we still managed to win 6-1. Excited to see how we perform when we do bring our “A” game.

So I finally got to watching some of the game. Maybe its due to knowing the score in advance but the game has all the drama of Dallas waving a white flag.

I did watch 5mins of the game in real time. before heading out to enjoy the rest of the day. At that moment I saw Harley with the puck at the point and instead of ripping a shot he just dumps it in, Oilers recover puck and get a dangerous rush up ice. I thought at that exact moment that its clear who's going to win. Stars have hardly anybody playing with moxy or purpose. Oilers have plenty of players capable of it.

But we complain a lot about coaching here. I'd have to say its plain nuts what the opponent coachng has yielded this playoffs. the one thing I wouldn't be doing against the Oilers D is dumping the puck in. As long as Dallas have that as a strategy they are dead in the water. They're just handing our D the puck. Haven't finished watching yet but this game felt inevitable. Dallas trying to mount something in 2nd and storming the castle firing toothpicks... About the extent of it. The Oilers yawning throughout the period just letting Dallas punch themselves out. Then Oilers score 4 goals in last 7 sog of the game. Like what?

By my eyes Dallas gave up their game plan in the first minutes of the game. They've been so vanilla and so many players not scoring that they were trying to force offense and getting caught. Thus the 2-0 lead. But that goal at the end of the 2nd with just secs left. What a killer. Go into the third 2-1 is a lot different than 3-1. Oilers didn't ease up the pedal this time I guess.

Dallas are a real weird team though, impossible to figure out. Everytime it seems like they are dead in the water they claw back and do something. Not sure if they will this time. but a lot of guys in Dallas room should be ashamed. Duchene is a disgrace to playoffs. No team should want him after this. No team should ever have wanted Dadonov. Robertson and Hints have been duds. Hintz so bad you would hardly even notice he wasn't playing today. Dallas best line a lot of the time seemed to be 4th line. Didn't it seem like Dallas gave up in this game? Maybe it didn't seem like that in realtime but it did watching it later.

Maybe this is the year the Oil put it together. Their sense of moment is off the charts scoring big goals at exact moments that just kill the opposition. A lot of Killshot moments this playoffs where Oilers are just removing hope of opponents.

Ott really isn't good against the Oilers. We really seem to have his number pretty consistently.

Love reading what folks are thinking while watching. To me, what I found most odd was that Dallas started this one out playing a 1-2-2 style of play and I thought for sure this was going to be like a 2-1 sort of game where both teams are going to be playing defensively and limiting chances. When Edmonton went up 2-0 relatively early, Dallas adjusted to playing 2-2-1 and started pressuring us immensely. I'm the 2nd period in particular they started pressing with the offensive line change, but the result was a ton of odd man rushes against them as a trade off. I think overall I'd say that deployment was actually working pretty well despite not showing up on the score board.

This is where it got weird for me. In the 3rd period, despite being down 3-1 and having success with their tactics they went back to playing a 1-2-2 style. This is why you never really saw them put the gas on again in the 3rd. I thought this was a really weird adjustment from their coaching staff given they were having success with pressing earlier in the game. It was also like strategy wise they were giving up on trying to press for the win and instead started throwing bodies around...

DoBoer is getting out-coached so far in the series quite handedly. Knobs and his crew are just so good in these 7 games series.

Stu is a big reason why we win this game, but I'd bet money the chances were actually pretty even without looking at the stat sheet.

This was Nuge in this game:

It was his "big balls" game. Dished out the sweet feeds and took that ugly hit/spill but kept on coming back for more!

Hyman was +5 in this game. Anyone know when was the last time an Oiler went +5 in a playoff game...?

I saw it like you did, also. I don't really get what Dallas's approach is here. It seems like DeBoer doesn't know what to do and he's just making stuff up as he goes along...

But does anyone else see Dallas as a weirdly slow club?

The fact that the stars didn’t even try to goon it up at the end shows what they think of Hintz or their chances

Great win that’s mostly on Stu and us capitalizing on our grade AAA chances due to their poor defense and mistakes but the second period can not happen again. We cannot allow the cycle in our zone for that extended time. Too many Emberson-like poor clears and turnovers that kept us hemmed in. It was sloppy hockey.

Dallas fans on their board sound like they jsut want the series to be over. Its kind of interesting. Deflation there is total. Sure some are blaming officiating but some of the fans there seem to despise their club. I could see it too. While Dallas have found ways to get deep in playoffs a lot they do it in some pretty mundane fashion. Never really get the impression that club is really on. Usually in first rounds they are, then they often win 2nd rounds by some luck and get nailed in Conference final.

I have to say that Robertson would have to be maddening as a fan. exhibit A of Regular season only player. But they've all sort of become that. Each postseason Dallas get to a certain point and often have trouble scoring and eventually it just kills them. But what a boring style of play. Dump it in, party like its dead puck era. Dallas used to be somewhat decent team to watch. Now they're so boring that on the rush they slow down so they don't trip over the blueline. You can see how tentative and worried they are how they approach our blueline. They don't have confidence skating in and lol even a lot of the time they do they still dump the puck behind the net. They do it on the PP. lol

Yeah I don't see the belief from that club. When your 4th line is playing the best its an indictment on everybody else. That said the Oilers are great at stomping any belief out of opponents. But Dallas have looked dead before and sometimes they rally after being embarrassed. They seem awfully frustrated. Like I say they gave up their game plan early.

The career knock on Deboer is that when he gets up against the best clubs he's all out of answers. Seems to be good enough to coach early rounds but he's not making any, or good adjustments. A lot of Dallas schemes are far worse than what they were doing years ago during Covid years and on paper they have better talent now. But having the game plan be dumping pucks in is a fireable offense. Dallas approach the opposition blueline as if its no mans land. So weird. Oilers gain Ozone for fun. The Dallas approach is so silly. Instead of using skill players to work puck into zone all these dumps means they have to overcommit to ever challenge any pucks in our end. They then get burned . Again again.

If the Stars insist on dumps then they should be halfboard chips, they shouldn't be putting pucks deep, our D are too good at navigating outs.

Its like what Coffey said to the D this year. "you're pro D, the expectation here is that you're going to be able to make some plays" Deboer should be saying that to his forwards. lol the only ones making plays or gaining zone with any confidence are Steele and Granlund.

Heiskanen is wasted on this Stars team with the way they play.

No one ever accused flames fans of being smart, to be fair
Flames fans are like a dude who caught his wife having an affair but the wife’s boyfriend (Tkachuk) leaves town. For some reason though, the husband becomes FB friends with the boyfriend after he divorced his wife and she’s moved on and is now seeing someone he has been envious of for decade and hates with a passion (the Oilers). Because of this envy, he would rather see his wife still with the boyfriend. They’re a different bunch.

McD, Hyman, and Nuge and many others say hi.

Maybe I don't get it but Stu just doing what a goalie is supposed to do. Make stops against a club that can't score any goals to save their lives. Dallas offense is lost in space.

The impressive thing in these games is the Oilers offense torching OTT everytime out. They're destroying him so far. In a 6-1 game I credit our offense and scoring quite a lot.

This is a bit convoluted. I lost the plot somewhere in the story. hehe

Flames fans are like a Cuck So are nucks fans obviously. Short and simple.

Not that Connor needed any more motivation, but shockingly a veteran coach like DaBore provided it for him with his idiotic insults towards Connor after last game. As the words were coming out of his mouth, I'm thinking to myself, 'I don't think you've thought this thru, this is going to bite you in the ass big time'. Result - a 6-1 pasting, led by Connor and friends.
