to Isles: Jeff Skinner

to Canes: Ryan Strome and Grabovski

Think Canes building a nice up and coming team, Strome will add to the mix. Isles find their guy with Skinner who is severely underrated in Carolina. Skinner needs a change of scenery, would do wonders with JT on the PP. 2 time 30 goal scorer.

Why exactly does Skinner need a change of scenery? He just had one of his best years and looks to have added a whole lot of two-way to his game.

No. Not even "no", but "hell no." Carolina is not the league's farm team, they do not exist to give away their best players for your scraps.

Carolina has been trying to trade him for the past two seasons. Wake up.

Strome is a really exciting up-and-coming scorer who has hit 50 points already, can play center, and has a top-5 pedigree unlike Skinner. Considering Skinner's obvious decline and his serious health issues, I would have expected this to be pretty close to a 1-for-1 deal.

But then we have the Isles throwing in a versatile center/winger in Grabovski, a multi time 20 goal scorer who's locked in for 2 more years. His salary is comparable to Skinner's which is important because it helps us stay above the cap floor.

TBH I feel like we should be adding to this but I guess OP doesn't think so. We take this offer and run.

I forgot how we were supposed to react on these things.

Yeah, nevermind what I said before. Let's get this deal done before they change their minds. Maybe we throw in Rask too, I don't care for his unenthusiastic goal celebrations.

And a first round pick.

Well, yeah, I mean, they have been trying to trade him for two years with no takers, you'd almost think they'd have to throw in a first-rounder to get some team to bite.

Maybe in return we can ask them to send a towel soaked in Tavares' butt sweat so some of our crappy players can soak up his greatness.

[MOD] Only thing is that you don't need to add because Grabovski is most likely done for his career with concussions. Art Staple who is beat writer for Isles said Grabo is heading towards Savard/Pronger territory which means LTIR career over but still on the books. So Canes would be absorbing his contract.

Skinners last three years he has played 71, 77, 82 regular season games. Not bad but since his concussions he really hasn't been same player. I can't tell if its concussions or player chemistry. Put him with Tavares and he could explode.

OP is changing my mind, very convincing argument. It would almost be worth it to get rid of Skinner. Aside from the fact he's one hit away from drinking and [MOD] through a tube the rest of his life, he smiles too much anyway.

I've heard Faulk is unhappy in Carolina too, why not make this a package deal?

Skinner + Faulk for Grabovski + Chimera. Strome is too young, but Chimera gives us the experience we need at forward.

I'm not asking for Skinner and don't what his value is, however, Strome is no "scrap".

[Serious mode engage]

I get that, but at the same time, he's got a lot of questions going on around him. Clearly the guy has a lot of potential, but you can't honestly think a guy coming off an 8-goal season who got scratched a bunch of times in the playoffs is anywhere close to being the main piece in a trade for a legit 30-goal scorer, who just happens to be only a year older than him.

Skinner being one hit away is the equvilant of saying I'm one incredibly drunk gm from getting an nhl contract. It's ridiculous and can be said for anyone. Skinner had a bounce back season, I'm no cane fan but they have been a team that on paper atleast has had a bunch of mediocore players surrounding there talented players like skinner for past 2 years. Skinner will be returning to 60+ pt form as guys like aho, TT, lindholm, gauthier (down the road), take the next step and replace guys that have bee taking spots they arent fit for. Skinner is a player you have to love simply due to his skating. I don't think he'll ever become the ppg superstar he was supposed to be after his rookie season, but he can be the canes leading scorer and put up 65+ moving forward.

I'm fairly certain after the 2014-15 your response would have been the EXACT opposite. I would go on, but......:deadhorse

Anyway, I don't think Skinner is the type of player the Isles should be looking to acquire because he isn't going to put them over the top OR add something that the team is missing. If the Isles didn't have Strome, I wouldn't want to acquire him either mainly due to consistency issues.

Skinners last three years he has played 71, 77, 82 regular season games.

That's meaningless. The FACT is that he is 1 hit away from drinking out of a straw and how many games he's played the past 3 seasons is totally irrelevant. Sure, he's played 92% of his possible games throughout his entire career, but that means nothing. 1 Hit away.

Not bad but since his concussions he really hasn't been same player. I can't tell if its concussions or player chemistry.

I agree, before any concussions, he had a 31 Goal season in 82 games. The past 3 years, after his concussions, he's only averaged 28 goals / 82 games (including a 33 goal season and a 28 goal season). Yeah, some homer Canes fans will try to point out that scoring in the NHL as a whole is down since his rookie year; or that the Canes are a team that doesn't score as much (2.82 G/Game in his rookie year, 2.39 G/Game this past year); or that Peters plays a more defensive oriented system, but that's just noise that takes away from the real issue. He's clearly not the same player.

Put him with Tavares and he could explode.

I honestly don't see him fitting on the Islanders. Islanders want big forwards and pretty much every forward on the team is either over 6' tall or over 200 lbs. Skinner is a smurf.
