Okay, I am not like clamoring for more Drake Caggiula ice time. But this coaching staff just seems clueless about things like momentum or noticing who is going. The guy was getting a regular shift. Then he lays out a good clean hit and takes two of the Wilds top players off the ice. Should have drawn an instigator penalty too. And immediately proceeds to get benched. Playing just three more shifts (one of them being a few seconds long) the remaining half of the game. Because accountability for AHL players only?

The in game personal decisions this year are head scratching. And again, I'm not screaming for more Caggiula time. It's just an example and a microcosm of poor gamesmanship by our coaching staff. Why isn't Skinner pulled when he lets in like the first three shots? Sure two were called back, but why roll with a guy who has been trash all season and has the worst stats in the league, when he's clearly off more than normal? Why bench a player that was getting under the other teams skin? Why keep rolling Nuge on the PP when he has been incapable of making a play all year and tonight was caught inexplicably refusing to shoot and passing the puck out of a high danger scoring chance? I just don't get it.

Well that was predicatble.
I havent read any of the thread yet but I am quite sure that my take wont be popular.

That was an absolute garbage defensive game by this team. Their D zone coverage down low was putrid.
Case in point...the 2nd Wild goal. Bouchard puck watches and then at the last second he tries the weakest of stick checks on the Wild player.
Such a garbage play by Bouchard (who has been garbage in his own zone most of the season) and that for me epitomized the Oilers D zone play in this game.

They didnt force the Wild to earn anything.
Meanwhile at the other end of the ice (aside fom 2 very lucky bounces) the Oilers didnt get much of a sniff on Fleury.

The level of non commitment by this team in and around their own net in this game was AHL level IMO.
They totally deserved to lose this game.

Tonight’s loss isn’t all on Skinner to be sure but when I think back to Koskinen days I really only worried about the high shots. He covered down low adequately. Skinner, I have no idea what’s going to happen, guy has no style or technique to speak of.
He has to be replaced and I don’t think Bowman has a choice. Someone we don’t want to move has to be sacrificed for a goalie. Just do it.
He's never been athletic, but used to be a pretty decent positional goalie who stopped a lot of chances just from being in the right place, at the right time. That has completely disappeared this year. He's often out of position, and his technique has fallen off a cliff. At the very least, he needs some sort of reset. Pickard hasn't been exceptional either imo, but they prolly need to run him out for a few games at least. Tough place to be in for the oil.

He was nothing but hustle in the preaseason too. The Drake ain’t much of a needle mover but he’s earned more looks.

I believe we are something like 1-8 against playoff teams this season. The one win was against Calgary who was in rebuild mode last year. The only good thing that I can say about this team is that our star players are phenomenal. Everything else is shit and I have no doubt that if McDrai were injured for the rest of the season, this would be a lotto team. The supporting cast has been that bad. Props to Jackson for soiling this team in a few weeks. Even past GMs would struggle to achieve this great accomplishment.

This team is so f***ing bland

No energy, no skill, no pushback

We’ve somehow made a team with McDavid and Leon on it hard to watch
They had a guy going. At least giving it his all. And as a 4th liner he took two top line guys off the ice with him. One because of a hit and one a beautiful 5 minute trade off in a fight. Had another player wanting to fight him too. Clearly getting under the others teams skin. Then... Bench...

It's sad but Skinner makes me miss Koskinen

The Smith/Koskinen duo wasn't so bad after all lol
We were always going to miss Smith and his .910-.923 performances for a paltry 2M per. Kosko whatever though, overpaid trash that couldn’t get a look from anyone except Euro leagues.

In fairness to Jackson, who could've seen the massive regression by the secondary players coming. Nugent Hopkins with 2 goals, Hyman with 3, Arvidsson was good last year.

Arvidsson played 18 games last year. He has 1 playoff goal in 13 playoff games in the last 3 playoffs combined. There's a reason LA moved on from him, he wasn't worth the cost. If we look at it as a direct Foegele for Arvidsson swap, Foegele is the better, more consistent, harder to play against, and healthier player.

Bouchard was hot garbage (again) tonight as well. His defensive miscues and bad reads game in and game out are bottom pairing rookie level bad.

Yet he nary misses but a shift.

Yeah getting sick of the guy at this point too. Caan't be a shutdown guy,

I mean the stat line people are fawning over for Foegele this year, 6 goals in 20 games is actually less than the 6 in 18 Arvidsson had a year ago, lol and that was a "down" year for him.

Foegele had kind of a shit playoffs too, 3 goals in 4 full playoff rounds kinda sucks, Kostin and Bjugstad the year prior each had 3 goals in just 2 rounds.

Healthier sure I'll give you that.
