Pretty easy call on this one

Is it?

How can we know until those draft picks are used?

What if they find they find the next Brad Richards or Brayden point in the 3rd round?

What if they find the next Mark Stone in the 6th round?

What if those picks are used to acquire a plzyer at the deadline and that player is a key piece?

We have no way of knowing that SJ won that trade until those draft picks are used.

The truth is Lilly is not good, he hasn't shown a damn thing in about 4 years.

He has a little bit of size but he NEVER uses it.

He did once against Boston in the playoffs, and then 2 of them hit him and then he stopped and has never hit anyone again.

His career high in points is 23 so he doesn't really bring offense.

He's not good defensively.

He doesn't really do anything.

He's the defense version of Josh Levio in that he doesn't score, he doesn't hit, he doesn't fight, he doesn't block shots, he doesn't PK, he's not on the PP he does NOTHING.

Except It's worse with Lilly because Josh Levio didn't make 3 million bucks to do NOTHING.

Lilly does.

I am honestly so pissed at Treliving and Berube and think this one’s gonna look bad as soon as a few weeks from now. Liljegren is either a fantastic bottom pairing guy or adequate top 4 option going by any statistic. Outrageously bad asset management.

I liked Lilly but the guy couldn't win a board battle with a chainsaw and a machete. Exposed regularly on any zone pressure and got caved in sheltered minutes. Terrible puck handling giveaways... in tense moments he has the "yips" with the puck. And you want to promote him to top pair against top competition? Say all you want about coaches he's had, but they are surrounded by intelligent voices all day too. They saw what everyone else did. If he can't handle being "converted to a 2-way 5-6 dman" to earn a spot then he sure as heck can't handle the "#1-2D slot with #1PP time".

Hope the best for Lilly he'll finally get minutes and may prove us doubters fools.
There is no need to lie. The last 2 seasons he caved in other teams 5 on 5. He was the best possession dman we had and one of the best at generating expected and actual goal differentials.

He is a typical example of a player brought over too early, before they develop confidence in their game. It usually has bad effects on their decision making. Still skates well, can hold on to the puck. Can perhaps put things together with the right coaching. I don't think anyone in Sweden understood why he was brought to NA so early.

lmao. I could swear at some point recently, i said Liljegren is the type of player who would make a lot of sense as a "filler" for a team like San Jose.

It's a very reasonable deal. Sharks pay basically nothing but a bit of temporary cap space they have in abundance. Leafs lose a guy that is a bit of an awkward fit like Jokiharju as a "tweener" who plays a Top-4D sort of game, but isn't good enough to actually be a Top-4D.

Expect Liljegren to do well for San Jose and fill the appropriate role as a "filler" as other guys develop. Probably going to see some upsurge in his points in the process. His minus number might take a hit.

He's like the defenceman version of Granlund in a lot of ways. He's sorta built to be a "good play on a bad team".

A deal that fits all sides really. Low risk for the Sharks with a potential decent upside if he thrives in a new environment, Leafs clear cap of a guy who clearly wasn't fitting and pick up a depth D, whilst the player gets a chance to show whether he is good enough.

There is no such thing as a fantastic bottom pairing guy, that's why they are bottom pairing guys.

A fantastic bottom pairing guy would be a top 4 D that plays on the bottom pair because the team he is on is that deep.

That is very, very VERY NOT Lilly
