Leafs L SJ W
Pretty easy call on this one
Not really though people were high on him in his draft year. A few fans may have thought he was the chosen one though. He was another chosen one by Toronto fans not to long ago lol
There is no need to lie. The last 2 seasons he caved in other teams 5 on 5. He was the best possession dman we had and one of the best at generating expected and actual goal differentials.I liked Lilly but the guy couldn't win a board battle with a chainsaw and a machete. Exposed regularly on any zone pressure and got caved in sheltered minutes. Terrible puck handling giveaways... in tense moments he has the "yips" with the puck. And you want to promote him to top pair against top competition? Say all you want about coaches he's had, but they are surrounded by intelligent voices all day too. They saw what everyone else did. If he can't handle being "converted to a 2-way 5-6 dman" to earn a spot then he sure as heck can't handle the "#1-2D slot with #1PP time".
Hope the best for Lilly he'll finally get minutes and may prove us doubters fools.
In SJ he will probably be a better D and get to play more.I am stunned they didn't have to pay to move him.
He's a bottom pair D at best with the constitution of melted butter.
Good luck with him SJ
I am honestly so pissed at Treliving and Berube and think this one’s gonna look bad as soon as a few weeks from now. Liljegren is either a fantastic bottom pairing guy or adequate top 4 option going by any statistic. Outrageously bad asset management.
There is no such thing as a fantastic bottom pairing guy, that's why they are bottom pairing guys.
A fantastic bottom pairing guy would be a top 4 D that plays on the bottom pair because the team he is on is that deep.
That is very, very VERY NOT Lilly
So there's not fantastic back up goalies or 4th liners either?
Generally if you have a fantastic backup that guy is somebody that a lot of people think can be a starter.
Guys like Spencer Knight come to mind or Jermey Swayman before this season, Tukka Rask when he was Tim Thomas Backup or Vasi when he was the Backup Ben Bishop, Hasek when he was Belfour's backup in Chicago or Marty Biron as Ryan Miller's backup, or both Turek and Turco as Belfour's backup in Dallas, Kipper as SJ's #3 I could do this all day.
You know who would be a fantastic 4th liner? Bobby McMann, if the Leafs could add a forward that could bump Bobby McMann to the 4th line they'd be loaded up front because Bobby McMann is significantly better then a 4th liner.
yes there are fantastic backup goalies and 4th liners.
But they are Guys that are in those spots but should be starting goalies but aren't because of who the #1 is or guys that should be higher in the lineup but aren't because they are on incredibly deep teams.
love it when the leafs trade one of their only good D for nothing. keep it up treliving!
He is a typical example of a player brought over too early, before they develop confidence in their game. It usually has bad effects on their decision making. Still skates well, can hold on to the puck. Can perhaps put things together with the right coaching. I don't think anyone in Sweden understood why he was brought to NA so early.
The extra year on Liljegren's ticket. Not sure why Utah didn't make this move?
Every fan would love a team to trade their only good D for nothing. I don't think it has ever happened before. It is almost always a struggling D whk might still have potential that get traded, like this trade.love it when the leafs trade one of their only good D for nothing. keep it up treliving!
